All Status Effects in Nioh 3: A Complete Explainer

In the RPG Nioh 3, various status effects, buffs, and debuffs play a vital role. Understanding their mechanics is crucial for creating an effective character build and defeating challenging bosses. These effects can affect both enemies and you, and learning to use them to your advantage is key to success.

It’s important to distinguish between elemental attacks and status effects. Elemental attacks (Fire, Wind, Water, Lightning) deal direct damage. Status effects, on the other hand, don’t deal damage themselves, but instead impose debilitating effects on the target, which are often the result of a successful elemental attack.

Here’s a full list of status effects in Nioh 3 and their impact:

Status Effect (Element) Description of the effect
Wet (Water) The target receives increased physical damage.
Scorched (Fire) The target burns, taking damage over time. Can be extinguished by quickly rolling.
Electrified (Lightning) Slows the target.
Stunned (Wind) The target deals reduced physical damage.
Polluted (Earth) The target receives increased Ki (stamina) damage when attacked.
Poisoning Deals poison damage over time.
Stench Temporarily stuns the target when attempting to use consumables, items, or Ninjutsu.
Paralysis Temporarily paralyzes the target, preventing them from moving or attacking.
Confusion Slows the target, makes it easier to “shake” (stagger) and slows down the recovery of Ki.

The clever combination of these effects, especially the application of two different elemental status effects to inflict Confusion, can dramatically change the course of any battle. Consider this knowledge when choosing weapons, onmyo spells, and ninjutsu to gain a decisive advantage.
