Fortnite ‘s arsenal is updated almost every season, and new chapters add new weapons and items. This means your default loadout may change with each new season and chapter.
Some players choose weapons to suit their playstyle, but it’s generally worth trying each option to see if it suits you. Typically, there are a few weapons that players gravitate toward due to their power and ease of use. Here’s everything you need to know about the best weapons in the current Fortnite season.
Weapons in Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 1 can be divided into a few simple tiers based on their effectiveness . This season is one of the most balanced in a long time, with no single weapon being too powerful. Weapons are divided into the following tiers:
Each weapon has its strengths and weaknesses in different situations: shotguns and submachine guns are most effective at close range, while assault rifles and sniper rifles are best suited for medium and long-range combat. This means we won’t be comparing a sniper rifle to a shotgun, but rather evaluating each weapon based on how it performs in its respective situations.
If you’re more comfortable using an SMG than a shotgun, the Holo Rush is a great choice, as its scope makes it effective at both close and medium range.
A weapon’s rarity affects its overall damage and can be a deciding factor when choosing whether to swap a familiar weapon for a rarer, but possibly less powerful, version of a different type. For example, we wouldn’t recommend choosing the Twin Hammer shotgun over the Iron Pump shotgun. However, if you defeat Shoreline Brutus and get a chance to loot the Mythic Twin Hammers , it’s definitely worth it.
The recommended set looks like this:
The base tier table for this season (including Mythic rarity) is shown below:
| Level | Weapon |
|---|---|
| S | Iron Pump Shotgun, Sharpshooter Assault Rifle, Human Rights Defender Assault Rifle, Mythic Iron Pump Shotgun, Mythic Sharpshooter Assault Rifle, Mythic Twin Hammers, Mythic Human Rights Defender Assault Rifle |
| A | PP “Golorush” Arc-lightning gun Sniper rifle “Avenger” Mythical Arc-lightning gun |
| B | Double Hammer Shotgun, Dual Micro-SMG, Tactical Pistol |
| C | Grenades, Sticky Sticks , Dynamite , Abandoned Vow Blade |
| Weapon | Description | Level |
|---|---|---|
| Iron Pump Shotgun | It functions similarly to the old Thunder Pump: it deals good damage to players but is weak against structures. The Legendary version can remove all health and shields with a single headshot. | S |
| Assault rifle “Sharpshooter” | High damage per second and virtually zero recoil make hitting targets easy. The integrated scope reduces aiming spread. | S |
| Assault rifle “Human Rights Defender” | This rifle doesn’t have a scope, but it delivers good DPS. Combined with very low recoil and high damage per shot, it will become a mainstay for many players. | S |
| Mythical Shotgun “Iron Pump” | We’d go with the Mythic Iron Pump over the Mythic Twin Hammers, but both options are powerful enough for close combat. | S |
| Mythical Assault Rifle “Sharpshooter” | The Mythic version of the Sharpshooter is definitely worth getting by defeating Hash due to its high damage. | S |
| Mythical Twin Hammers | This version is significantly superior to the standard shotgun, dealing massive damage and allowing you to eliminate an enemy at close range with two shots. | S |
| The mythical assault rifle “Human Rights Defender” | If possible, swap out your regular assault rifle for one of the two mythic ones to get a significant damage boost. | S |
| Weapon | Description | Level |
|---|---|---|
| PP “Golorush” | This submachine gun is an excellent choice for close-quarters combat. It has a high rate of fire and good damage, and its integrated holographic sight makes it effective even at medium range. | A |
| Arc Lightning Cannon | This unique energy weapon deals damage with a chain of lightning bolts that jump between targets. Ideal for fighting groups of enemies or in situations where enemies are close together. | A |
| Avenger sniper rifle | A powerful sniper rifle capable of incapacitating an enemy with a single, precise headshot. It requires skill, but the rewards are plentiful. | A |
| Mythical Arc Lightning Cannon | The Mythic version of this weapon deals even more damage and has an increased chain lightning range, making it deadly in tight spaces or when facing multiple enemies. | A |
| Weapon | Description | Level |
|---|---|---|
| PP “Golorush” | An excellent weapon with high damage per second, effective at medium range. Although its damage is lower than that of assault rifles and its accuracy is inferior to the Sharpshooter, the integrated scope improves its usability and accuracy. | A |
| Arc Lightning Cannon | An unexpectedly useful weapon for the slots usually occupied by SMGs. The continuous lightning bolt quickly dispatches enemies at close to medium range, but won’t replace an assault rifle due to its limited range. | A |
| Avenger sniper rifle | It’s a decent sniper rifle, but it often takes multiple hits, even to the head, to completely eliminate an enemy. For this reason, it doesn’t reach Tier S. | A |
| Mythical Arc Lightning Cannon | Slightly more powerful than the regular version, but not enough to reach S-tier. Still, it’s worth picking up instead of a low-rarity SMG. | A |
| Weapon | Description | Level |
|---|---|---|
| Double Hammer Shotgun | This shotgun deals good damage, but its rate of fire is slower than the Iron Pump. It can be effective in close combat, but its reload speed and rate of fire are inferior, making it a less desirable choice. | B |
| Dual micro-PP | It has a very high rate of fire and can quickly remove enemy shields, but its effective range is extremely short and its recoil is significant. At medium range, it is practically useless. | B |
| Tactical pistol | A decent pistol with good accuracy and low recoil, but its damage per second is significantly inferior to assault rifles and submachine guns. It’s suitable for the start of a match, but it’s worth switching out at the first opportunity. | B |
| Weapon | Description | Level |
|---|---|---|
| Double Hammer Shotgun | It’s similar to a tactical shotgun: moderate damage and a good rate of fire. It’s very balanced, not overly powerful, but we wouldn’t choose a high-rarity Twin Hammer over a mid-rarity Iron Pump. | B |
| Dual micro-PP | Its very high rate of fire makes it excellent at extremely close range, but it has a small magazine, requiring frequent reloads during combat. | B |
| Tactical pistol | The pistol hasn’t changed in the last few seasons. It’s a reliable choice for close and medium range, but its recoil is too high to be truly powerful. | B |
| Weapon | Description | Level |
|---|---|---|
| Grenades | Regular grenades are still useful for flushing out enemies from cover or causing area-of-effect damage, but their effectiveness is highly dependent on the situation and throwing accuracy. | C |
| Velcro | Stickies can be deadly when thrown accurately, as they adhere to opponents and surfaces. However, their slow detonation and limited throwing range make them a risky and niche choice. | C |
| Dynamite | Dynamite deals massive damage to structures and can destroy entire buildings, but its long detonation time allows experienced players to easily avoid it. It’s ineffective in combat against players. | C |
| Blade of the Forsaken Vow | While this mythical blade deals decent damage in close combat, its main drawback is the need to get up close to the enemy, making you vulnerable to any shotgun or SMG. It’s not worth the risk or the slot it takes up. | C |
| Weapon | Description | Level |
|---|---|---|
| Grenades | They’re good for destroying structures, but they’re poor for other purposes. They should be replaced with a mobility or healing item first. | C |
| Velcro | Can only be found in balloon drops. Not bad, but nothing special. | C |
| Dynamite | Effective for blowing up buildings. | C |
| Blade of the Forsaken Vow | Too low DPS to pick up unless you need mobility help or for completing The Bride quests .
