How to mine cobalt in Hytale

Cobalt is one of two mid-tier ore types in Hytale , essential for intermediate crafting. It’s used to craft entire sets of gear and is also required to upgrade some workbenches. This means players will need a lot of cobalt to follow the game’s linear crafting progression.

Fortunately, cobalt isn’t a rare material, but to extract it in large quantities, you’ll likely have to travel far from your base. Here’s where to look.

Where to find cobalt in Hytale

Cobalt is often found in snowy regions of the map . You can find numerous individual veins of cobalt along mountain ranges in the tundra, and entire deposits of this ore, along with copper and iron, underground.

Cobalt mining in the mountains is generally safer than underground mining . There’s usually plenty of this material on the surface, so you don’t have to worry about caving or fighting subterranean creatures. However, the snow-capped mountains are also home to yetis, and fighting them can be quite dangerous.

If you do decide to venture into the underground mines, we strongly recommend setting up camp first . Simply set up a sleeping bag in a safe spot, along with perhaps a fire and a chest or two. Underground areas in snowy biomes often contain a lot of ice on traversable surfaces. Since the ice is slippery, there’s a high risk of falling into the abyss if you’re not careful. Also, be sure to bring a few repair kits before long journeys.

If you have a Wizard’s Workbench at your base, you can build teleporters that will connect your home to other points on the map.

What is cobalt used for?

Cobalt is primarily used to craft cobalt gear, including weapons, armor, and tools . It is also used to upgrade certain workstations, such as the basic workbench and the blacksmith’s anvil. Place raw cobalt ore in a furnace and smelt it into ingots.

It’s worth remembering that crafting cobalt gear also requires “Shadowcloth Scraps”—a material similar to “Linen Scraps” dropped by Forsworn. Forsworn are a type of humanoid enemy found in snowy biomes. You can find their strongholds on the map, but be careful. They are much more aggressive than Trorks and Skeletons, and large camps tend to be very dense. Proceed cautiously and try not to get surrounded.
