Hytale Fishing Guide: Traps, Bait, and Cooking

Fishing in Hytale allows players to catch and cook fish found in lakes, rivers, and oceans. This can become an inexhaustible source of food if done correctly.

How to fish in Hytale

The main method is to use fishing traps . These are craftable items that can be placed on the surface of any body of water. Once placed, the trap activates after a short time and can catch fish, sea treasures, shells, and other underwater items. This is also the only way to obtain Salt Blocks.

Each trap can only hold one item at a time and must be manually emptied to reset.

You can load the trap with fish bait . This increases the chance of catching fish (rather than random debris) and reduces the activation time. The trap typically activates in 20-40 minutes, but with bait, it only takes 5-10 minutes.

The traps are reusable and do not break after use.

Both traps and bait can be crafted at a Level 2 Farming Workbench .

There is no fishing rod minigame in the current version of Hytale, but it may be added in the future.

Players can also kill fish in the water with weapons. However, this will only yield “Raw Fish,” not live fish. Fish cannot be caught manually.

How to Use Fish in Hytale

Any fish can be processed into Raw Fish at the Chef’s Stove . The amount of Raw Fish obtained depends on the rarity of the original fish.

The rarity of a fish can be easily determined by the color of its icon in the inventory: colorless – common, green – uncommon, blue – rare, purple – epic, gold – legendary.

Raw Fish can be cooked over a campfire with fuel to create Fried Fish . This is a consumable healing item with the following effects:

• Increase health 1
• Duration: 45 seconds
