Most players who purchased Subnautica on Steam during Early Access will be able to find their saves here:
- C:/Program Files (x86)/Steam/steamapps/common/Subnautica/SNAppData/SavedGames/
The path to Subnautica saves for the Epic Games Store version will be:
- C:/Users/[Username]/AppData/LocalLow/Unknown Worlds/Subnautica/Subnautica/SavedGames
If you purchased the game from the Microsoft Store or downloaded it through a Game Pass subscription , the saves folder will be hidden in a different location:
- C:/Users/[Username]/AppData/Local/Packages/UnknownWorldsEntertainmen.GAMEPREVIEWSubnautica_bh1f6rvenfkm2/SystemAppData/wgs/[Random Character Set Folder]/
In the last two cases, you may need to locate the AppData folder, which is usually hidden by Windows security settings. To reveal it, simply check the “Hidden items” box or use the keyboard shortcut Win + R and enter %APPDATA% in the window that opens.
If the vast expanses of Subnautica’s waters have inspired you to become a pirate , you’ll have to find your own saves. Here are a couple of examples from popular pirate giveaways:
- C:/Users/[Username]/Subnautica/SNAppData/SavedGames
- C:/Users/Public/Documents/Steam/CODEX/264710/remote
For users of other operating systems, the path to the Subnautica saves folder will be completely different:
Linux (Steam Deck):
- ~/.steam/steam/userdata/[ Your Steam ID ]/264710/
macOS (OS X):
- ~/Library/Application Support/unity.Unknown Worlds.Subnautica/Subnautica/SavedGames/
