Grand Theft Auto Vice City, one of the most memorable games in the series, is back. We’re not talking about a reboot or remaster by Rockstar Games; you can now play the game simply through your browser.
Thanks to a new web version released via DOS Zone, you can now run the game directly through your browser. Powered by the WebAssembly build of the fan-developed reVC engine , the game can be played in any modern browser.
Although it’s marketed as a demo version, you can make almost any adjustments and use the in-game codes within the browser. In fact, you could view it as a demo demonstrating how the 3D game engine can be used through browser APIs. The fan community has summarized its purpose in this way.
The game is compatible with all screen resolutions and includes a save system. You can continue progressing unless you clear your browser’s cookies and history.
By the way, let’s not forget to mention that the developers also made a statement regarding copyright. Grand Theft Auto Vice City runs through a web browser , but according to them, the code used is only the game’s open-source code.
However, despite this statement, we don’t know if RockStar Games will address the issue or if the web version will be blocked. Only time will tell.
To play the game through your web browser, simply go to the DOS Zone website with an up-to-date browser and open the Vice City web version. You can choose a nickname during login. This step is important for creating the save files. Then, just click “Click To Play Demo”. The game will start through your browser.
The web version appears to be free. However, as mentioned above, the development team has stated that they respect copyrights and have only used open-source code. This means you can do everything in the game, but there are no follow-up missions after the first one. We don’t know if Rockstar will remove the game despite this.
