Continuing your progress through the Sanctuary in Tormented Souls 2, literally seconds after acquiring the nail gun, you’ll find yourself in the crematorium. Here, you’ll first encounter Joseph, an old man in a wheelchair . Incidentally, vases can be destroyed with a nail gun, but why waste ammo when you can find another tool?
After the cutscene with the man, notice the corpse of a nun with a hammer sticking out of her head. Take this item to obtain your first melee weapon.
The hammer is used both as a weapon and as a puzzle- solving tool . Furthermore, it allows you to destroy ceramic vases (urns) scattered throughout the Abbey. These vases contain various consumables, but not all containers contain them. Furthermore, two vases block the path to the upper floor of the bell tower, where an optional bell puzzle is located, allowing you to acquire another powerful firearm, the shotgun.
Unfortunately, a hammer can only destroy vases. You can’t use it to break boards or wooden boxes, much less cracked brick walls.
How to destroy wooden crates and break planks
Once you’re at the Fish Factory, explore the lower rooms and find a way up. Once you reach the top, follow the long corridor and find the door to the Dormitory. In the living quarters, look for the green door leading to the restroom—Old Joseph is hiding there. After talking to him, take the crowbar: it will become your backup melee weapon .
The crowbar deals slightly more damage than a hammer and can also be used to break apart the wooden crates found both in the Fish Factory and the Trade District. It can also be used to pry open the thin boards covering some doors. Keep in mind that the crowbar won’t be able to break through the thick beam on the Fish Factory’s main door—it requires a more powerful tool.
How to break a board on the front door of the Fish Factory
This is a unique and only use for the tool you’ll receive at the Fish Factory after completing the entire storyline. After defeating the Fish Factory boss , keep an eye out for the saw blade that falls to the floor. At the end of the reception hallway where the battle took place, there’s a hatch with a ladder—go down and look for the drawers containing a chainsaw. To restore it to working order, open your inventory, select the chainsaw, and use the “Combine” option to attach the saw blade you found. The chainsaw is an excellent tool for dispatching enemies and is the perfect tool to cut through the thick beam on the Fish Factory’s front door. After destroying it, you’ll return to the Backyard and can continue on to the cemetery.
How to destroy brick walls
After defeating the boss in the Cemetery, return to the real world through the mirror, move forward, and grab the portable flashlight from the pedestal. Returning to the sewer passage, turn on the flashlight and break the boxes in the tunnel—they will open a passage into a cave. Inside the cave, you’ll meet old Joseph again; after the conversation, examine the corpses and retrieve the sledgehammer. The sledgehammer is the heaviest and most powerful melee weapon in the game: its strikes deal massive damage, but it’s slow to attack. Besides its combat role, the sledgehammer is useful for breaking down cracked brick walls you may have already passed. One such wall in the Abode’s refectory hides an item that influences the good ending; another is located in the Fish Factory.
