Warbond Python Commando in Helldivers 2: Is It Worth Buying and What’s Inside?

The Python Commando Warbond in Helldivers 2 is a continuation of the previous Viper Commando set, but this time players will find heavier gear, including a couple of the game’s most sought-after weapons. The new set has a lot going for it, but given the ever-growing list of warbonds, it’s worth considering whether to prioritize it. This guide lists all the Python Commando items and evaluates the effectiveness of key pieces against all enemy factions.

All items in the Helldivers 2 Python Commando Warbond   Like the previous Viper Commando Warbond, the Python Commando retains the jungle theme, but with a more militarized twist compared to the guerrilla-style of its predecessor. As always, activating the Warbond requires 1,000 Super Credits, and unlocking each item in its catalog requires Medals.

Is the Python Commando Warbond worth buying in Helldivers 2?

Yes, it’s worth it, but players should temper their expectations. The armor and weapon bonuses in Python Commandos are quite effective, but from a pure gameplay perspective, warbonds like Dust Devils are often objectively more valuable.

AR/GL-21 “One-Two”

  • Damage: 95 (8mm – light penetration)
  • Capacity: 40 (6 magazines in reserve); 3 grenades
  • Rate of fire: 650 rounds/min

Aside from the underbarrel grenade launcher, this unremarkable assault rifle is extremely simple, but that doesn’t mean it’s weak. The “Razorback” outperforms the standard Liberator in damage per second , and its grenade launcher makes it quite versatile for taking out medium-armored targets, destroying enemy spawners, and flushing out burrowed Terminid Explosives.

The One-Two assault rifle has three significant drawbacks:

  • Low base Ergonomics (29), making it feel clunkier than other assault rifles.
  • Small overall ammunition capacity for both 8mm rounds and 40mm grenades.
  • Limited customization options: only sights and muzzle devices are available.

Overall, the Raz-Dva is a reliable assault rifle that will please those who enjoy low-impact weapons. It’s enjoyable to shoot and performs well against all factions. However, its poor ergonomics make it uncomfortable in close combat, especially against fast-moving enemies like Hunters.

AX/FLAM-75 “Hot Dog”

The Hot Dog is a Watchdog bodyguard drone equipped with a flamethrower. As terrifying as it sounds, the chances of accidentally setting allies on fire are quite low due to the flamethrower’s relatively short range. Think of the Hot Dog as a deadlier version of the Breather Dog rover, sacrificing crowd control for damage and area denial.

Perhaps the Hot Dog’s greatest strength is its ability to damage heavy armor with its fire-based weaponry . It won’t be the fastest way to kill a Charger or War Strider, but if you have nothing else at hand when such an enemy is bearing down on you, you can count on your Hot Dog to deal with the oncoming threat.

CQC-9 “Deforestation Tool” (Chainsaw)

The Deforestation Cannon is perhaps the weakest part of the Python Commando Warbond. The melee support weapon itself makes it a less practical choice than other options. However, it does have several positive aspects:

  • When the chainsaw hits a target, it “bites” it. The Helldiver automatically accelerates when the saw bites into something, allowing it to deal constant damage without having to swing again.
  • If you hold the Deforestation Cannon on a target long enough, its penetration increases from medium to heavy .
  • This weapon does not consume ammunition or fuel.
  • Hitting enemies with the chainsaw blade will temporarily stun them.

The “Deforestation Cannon” works best against Terminids, as its high damage per second and short stun render most melee enemies harmless. Surprisingly, it’s not too bad against Iluminati either, though it’s best avoided entirely against Automatons.

It all looks good on paper, but in practice, the weapon has one serious problem: its “biting” mechanics are inconsistent . Instead of biting into a target with its sharp, flexible teeth, the chainsaw often simply passes through the enemy, negating its high damage and ability to penetrate heavy armor.

Additionally, the Deforestation Cannon’s swing speed is quite slow, which paradoxically makes it extremely ineffective against hordes of Mute and swarms of Hunters.

This weapon performs best against medium to large sized targets.

M-1000 “Maxigan”

Fortunately, the Maxi-Gun isn’t as problematic as the Deforestation Cannon. It’s essentially an alternative to the MG-43 machine gun: both weapons penetrate medium armor and are excellent at clearing out hordes. However, the Maxi-Gun has several distinct advantages and disadvantages:

  • The Maxigan cannot be used without a special backpack containing ammunition. Instead, the weapon can fire without reloading or overheating (for up to 30 seconds of continuous fire).
  • The Maxigan has time to spin up and stop the barrel (about 0.5 seconds), and during these moments the player cannot roll.
  • The player can replenish the Maxi-Gun’s ammunition using a supply backpack, allowing the gun to fire for much longer.
  • The player cannot move while firing the Maxi-Gun, but its firepower is enough to destroy most heavy infantry before they can become a threat (such as Spitters, Commanders, Guardians, and Flesh-Mobs).
  • The Maxigan has a strong initial recoil, but the weapon stabilizes fairly quickly.
  • Considering the rate of fire, the weapon is extremely inefficient in consuming ammunition.

This weapon is best used against waves of enemy reinforcements . Point it toward the nearest beetle breach or bot/squid landing zone and simply open fire. The Maxi-Gun is useless against heavily armored targets, but if you bring a missile turret or thermite grenades, you can deal with them without relying on your allies.

The Maxi-Gun performs well against all factions , provided players can avoid encirclement. Surprisingly, it’s even effective against Automatons, with all their tyrannical long-range vehicles. However, support weapons like grenade launchers or other machine guns can perform the same job as the Maxi-Gun, and often with much better efficiency in terms of ammo consumption and overall effectiveness.

Rock Solid (Passive Armor Bonus)

The passive bonus Rock Solid increases melee damage by 100% and increases knockback resistance . This is a great alternative bonus for melee-focused builds, and its knockback resistance makes it useful even outside of such builds. However, this bonus isn’t as versatile as, say, Siege Ready , so its value is largely subjective.
