Guides

A guide to repairing gear in Hytale using a repair kit.

Hytale doesn’t forgive recklessness. A determined charge against a pack of wolves or a group of skeletons quickly turns brand-new weapons into scrap metal, and armor durability plummets to zero. The game’s repair system works differently than in other survival games—you can’t simply walk up to a workbench and repair your gear. You’ll need to stock up on special kits and resources beforehand.

Creating a repair kit

Repairing items in Hytale requires crafting a Repair Kit at a workbench of level 1 or higher. The kit icon is located in the second tab in the upper left corner—it’s a small pickaxe icon, easily confused with an iron ingot. Once crafted, the kit must be placed on the quick access bar, and then the specific item to repair must be selected from the window that appears.

The main advice is to use kits sparingly. Unlike other games in this genre, where repairs are available at any time at a workbench, here each repair requires resources. Repairing items at 90% durability is a waste of materials, which quickly run out during active play.

Materials needed:

To create one Repair Kit you will need:

  • Flax scraps (2 pieces)

  • Iron ingot (1 piece)

  • Light leather (1 piece)

Flax scraps

Flax scraps are obtained from various mobs in the first zone. Skeleton warriors patrol the fields above ground, goblin bandits dwell in dungeons, and trok camps are found in their villages. All of these enemies regularly drop the necessary material, so accumulating a stockpile of scraps is easy with active clearing of zones.

Iron ingots

Iron requires more effort. First, you need to mine iron ore, then smelt it in a level 1 furnace. The furnace will require a supply of sticks for fuel—cut down a few trees and stockpile enough wood beforehand.

Lightweight leather

Leather is crafted in two stages. First, hunt small animals—rabbits, pigs, rats, and other creatures that drop light hides. Once you’ve collected the required number of hides, build a level 1 drying station and process the material. The process takes time, but the drying station operates automatically once resources are loaded.
