How to Expand Your Inventory in Hytale and Get All Backpack Upgrades

Unlike Minecraft, Hytale allows you to increase your inventory size through a crafting system. This mechanic doesn’t require complex actions, but it does provide a goal for progression early in the game.

Expanding your bag’s capacity solves the main problem of any survival game: constantly returning to base to unload resources. More space means longer mining of stone, wood, and ore without interruptions from trips to storage.

Unlocking the Basic Backpack

The standard inventory in Hytale remains just inventory until you craft a backpack. The recipe is unlocked automatically upon reaching level 2 of the workbench, which requires the following to upgrade:

• 30 copper ingots

• 20 iron ingots

• 20 scraps of flax

Copper and iron are mined in shallow mines and caves without much difficulty. Flax scraps are dropped by humanoid mobs on the surface and underground—skeletons, goblins, and other hostile creatures.

After gathering the materials, open the workbench and click the Upgrade button on the right side of the window. The backpack unlock recipe is located at the bottom of the fourth tab and requires:

• 8 iron ingots

• 16 medium leather

Completing the crafting adds additional slots for carrying logs, ore, and other resources, reducing the amount of running between mining points and the base camp.

First backpack upgrade

Inventory expansion doesn’t stop there. Backpack Upgrade I is equipped in the final slot on the right side of the character screen. First, you need to upgrade the workbench to level 3, then assemble the following components:

• 40 scraps of cindercloth

• 8 cobalt bars

• 24 heavy leather

After collecting the materials, the upgrade is crafted through the Tinkering tab on the workbench. Installing the upgrade in the character screen increases the bag’s capacity, allowing you to carry even more items on expeditions.

Second backpack upgrade

Backpack Upgrade II requires significant progress in world exploration. This upgrade is part of the fourth reward set on the Path of Memories, which requires collecting 100 Memories to unlock.

The process begins with visiting the Statue of Remembrance in the Edge of the Echo location early on. Accessible through the Forgotten Temple Gateway, the goal is to record encounters with 100 different creatures inhabiting various corners of Hytale .

Once the recipe is unlocked, all that’s left to do is return to the level 2 workbench with the necessary materials and craft the final upgrade, which will maximize your resource carrying capabilities.
