How to Get the Ice Shot in Metroid Prime 4: Beyond

Metroid Prime 4: Beyond features a system of elemental weapons needed to interact with special locks to unlock upgrades and solve puzzles. In this guide, we’ll explain how to obtain the Ice Shot to destroy Ice Blockers.

How to get an Ice Chip in Metroid Prime 4

Complete the Ice Belt Dungeon:

To obtain the Ice Shot upgrade, you’ll need an Ice Chip . This item is found at the end of the Ice Belt dungeon, the game’s third key location.

After completing Fury Green and Volt Forge, you’ll need to visit the Flare Pool in southeast Sol Valley to pick up the Flare Chip. This will allow you to return to Base Camp and unlock the Flare Shot, which is necessary for progressing in the Ice Belt.

When you’re ready, head northwest of Sol Valley to enter the Ice Belt. After riding the tram, you’ll find yourself in a large chamber with a hanging capsule with a glowing blue object on it.

This is an Ice Chip , but you can’t take it right away. First, you need to complete the dungeon, survive the Snow Wolves’ attack, and defeat the Keratos boss to obtain the Boost Ball upgrade . After that, you’ll return to this chamber on your way to the exit.

Returning with the Acceleration Ball upgrade:

With the Boost Ball upgrade, you’ll be able to retrieve the chip. Return to the capsule chamber and head up to the upper level to a closed room with windows. On one side is a malfunctioning door that can’t be opened from the inside.

Fire a Psychic Charge Beam from the broken window, bending it around the corner and hitting the oval target on the other side of the door. The door will open, revealing a Boost Ball spinner at the base of the crane. Use the upgrade to restore power to the crane base. Interact with the hologram that appears above the base to lower the capsule containing the Ice Chip.

Go to the capsule and interact with the blue light to receive an Ice Chip.

Return to the Fury of Green base camp:

As with the Fire Chip, return to Miles at his base camp station. After speaking with him, you’ll automatically give him the Ice Chip and permanently unlock the Ice Shot .

How to Destroy Ice Blocks in Metroid Prime 4: Beyond

Now, with the Ice Shot, you can destroy any ice blockages you encounter . To do this, simply aim at the blockage and fire one shot from this weapon. The blockage will be destroyed permanently.

An ice lock is one of several types of door locks. It can be identified by its white, frost-covered appearance. A map can also be used for precise identification.
