As you venture into the dangerous world of Hytale in search of adventure and progress, you risk losing some of your loot upon death. To avoid this, you’ll need a constant supply of food.
The easiest way to provide yourself with food is to create a farm near your base. Here, you can grow a variety of crops that will sustain you on long journeys. Let’s take a look at how farming works in the game.
Your first experience with farming will likely begin with gathering berries or mushrooms scattered around your spawn point. However, to create a stable and varied food supply, you’ll need to establish your own farming system as soon as possible.
To get started, you need to create a Farmer’s Workbench using any standard workbench—one you’ve found or built at your base. Here, you’ll have access to various tools, seeds, seedlings, planters , and much more. Here, you can also craft seeds for planting, clear plots with special tools, and process harvested crops.
If you want to plant directly into the ground, you’ll need to craft a hoe out of stone, copper, or iron and plow the area with it. Alternatively, you can use planters , which you can craft and plant seeds in. New planter and other item recipes are unlocked as you level up your Farmer’s Workbench , so be sure to upgrade it regularly as you progress through the game.
Every planted seed requires watering —either with a watering can or during rain. After a few days, it will grow into a harvestable crop. To harvest a plant, approach it and either chop it down or interact with it. The resulting crop can be eaten raw, used to cook various dishes at the Chef’s Stove , or even processed into additional Life Essence through the Life Essence tab if you run low while exploring the open world.
New seed types are unlocked not only by upgrading the Farmer’s Workbench , but also by restoring memories during the storyline in the Forgotten Temple . This can be done in Exploration Mode, gradually uncovering the game’s early access storyline.
Many farming recipes unlock other recipes as you level up, but Life Essence always remains the heart of your farming operations in Hytale. Combine crop cultivation with the limited animal taming available in Early Access, and you’ll be in great shape in no time!
The Farmer’s Workbench is divided into six categories: Farming, Seeds, Saplings, Life Essence, Planters, and Decorations . Each category offers an extensive crafting menu related to crops and plants . Creating this workbench is essential before you can start farming!
