Where to find sand in Hytale and how to use it

The world of Hytale consists of a variety of biomes, from mushroom forests to savannas and classic woodlands. Within them, you’ll find a vast array of blocks, most of which are designed for construction and decoration, but some have other uses as well.

Sand isn’t just a block for decorating the beach. It’s a key resource for crafting empty glass bottles, which are essential for brewing potions on an alchemy table.

The game is in early access , so information may change.

How to get glass and bottles

Unlike Minecraft, sand in Hytale isn’t used to create glass blocks . Instead, it’s used to craft empty glass bottles —the main ingredient for crafting potions.

The easiest way to find sand is to go beach hunting . These mini-biomes are located at the boundary between land and ocean and are primarily composed of sand blocks , sometimes interspersed with cobblestone or white sandstone.

On the map, sand appears as dark yellow, and white sandstone (often found near rivers and ponds) appears as light yellow.

Any pickaxe can mine sand quickly , so the resource is easily accessible if you have at least a simple pickaxe.

To smelt sand into empty glass bottles, you’ll need a furnace . It can be crafted on a workbench using six wood logs and six stones of any type.

Any wooden block or structural wood block (such as a simple door) can be used as fuel . One block of sand converts into one empty glass bottle in about ten seconds of smelting.

Sand is also found in large quantities in the biomes of the second zone, the Roaring Sands, but until you have at least iron armor and weapons, it is safer to mine it on the beaches of the starting zone.

How to make windows

To create windows, you need two things: a workbench (crafted in your inventory from six tree trunks and three stones) and tree trunks of any type (for example, birch or beech).

Each type of wood has its own style of planks and structural blocks . Most types of wood offer their own color variations to a simple wood window, while some (such as cedar) create unique windows, like tavern-style ones.

Place a workbench and move a stack of wood blocks into its inventory . This will unlock various blocks you can craft from them, including planks, doors, and windows.

Most blocks are crafted using the “one barrel = one block” scheme, but for windows, you’ll get two blocks for each barrel . These can be used in construction or as fuel for a stove, fire pit, or kitchen table , producing charcoal when burned .

Wood blocks and windows burn for roughly the same amount of time, so by turning wood into windows you essentially double your fuel supply , which is very handy when smelting large amounts of ore.
