Where to find rubies and sapphires in Hytale

In Hytale, you can mine more than just stone, earth, and metal. The game also features several precious stones that players can craft into magical equipment. Rubies and sapphires are the first of these, and to the chagrin of many players, they’re quite difficult to find.

Rubies and sapphires are extremely rare compared to most other resources in Hytale. Finding them requires deep exploration of a very specific and rather dangerous underground biome. Luck is also a big factor here, so you might have to make several trips to find even one of these gems.

Where to find rubies and sapphires in Hytale

Both of these gems are typically found inside volcanoes on volcanic islands . If you descend into the crater of such a volcano, you might discover a shrine-like structure constructed from gold blocks. In our case, we found a ruby and a sapphire lying atop one of these golden structures. If you’re lucky, there might be chests nearby that might also contain additional gems.

Players can easily descend into the crater of a volcano by carrying a bucket of water and creating a water elevator . However, the tunnels around volcanoes typically lead directly to the main cavern, where golden temples like these can be found. Just remember that the volcanic islands of Zone 4 are inhabited by powerful monsters, so be prepared. It’s best to have at least cobalt-level gear if you plan on doing a lot of fighting.

What are rubies and sapphires used for in Hytale?

At the time of writing, these stones are primarily needed to craft magical equipment on the Arcanist’s workbench, which requires thorium ingots. This equipment includes staves—ranged weapons that consume essence to perform magical attacks. Rubies are needed to craft fire staves, and sapphires are needed for ice staves.

Crafting a staff also requires silver and/or gold. Both of these precious metals can also be found in Zone 4 , although they can occasionally be looted from chests and other areas. If you want to craft a staff, be sure to search for gold and silver while in Zone 4.

At the time of writing this guide, staves are quite weak compared to other weapons in Hytale. The ammunition required to use them can also be cumbersome to gather, so keep that in mind.
