The sci-fi survival game StarRupture combines open-world exploration with challenging factory construction and resource gathering. To survive in the harsh environment of Arcadia-7, you’ll have to overcome difficult terrain, radiation, and enemies that can overwhelm you in seconds.
Spider-like alien creatures, or “Vermin,” roam the planet and are quick to attack. Some explode in your immediate vicinity, while others attack with their claws, crippling your defenses. However, the massive Goliath prefers a more direct approach to drive you from your new home, and while this creature is terrifying, it can be defeated.
Where to find Goliath
There doesn’t seem to be a specific location or area where Goliaths spawn. However, in my experience, the Abandoned Base/SMB Copperfield (Selenian Mining Base) , far east of the Orbital Lander, consistently spawns one or two Goliaths per visit. This area, littered with ruined habitation modules and equipment, is surrounded by tungsten arches, and upon entering the area, the visuals take on a reddish tint.
Regarding spotting a Goliath’s zone before you get too far: if you’re attacked by an unusually large number of small/young Cutters, followed by their larger brethren, then Exploders, all while the Throwers are bombarding you with green matter, it’s a sure sign they’re protecting someone or something . Keep a close eye on the direction the swarm is coming from, and you’ll see a large, rock-like creature literally rise from the ground .
If a swarm of small Pests knows you’re there, then Goliath will know too.
How Goliath attacks
Unlike his Pest army, Goliath has multiple attack types.
He’ll quickly approach you , using his large, bony limbs as cover. If you shoot him while he’s in this defensive stance, a shield icon will appear, indicating your attack is useless.
Once close enough, the Goliath will lunge at you, striking with its sharp claws and dealing massive damage. This attack will quickly deplete your shield.
In addition to the dash and claw attacks, be prepared for its powerful ground slam attack . The Goliath will rise up and slam the ground, sending a shockwave of rocks and force your way . If you’ve already been hit by its claws, this attack can kill you in one hit . Even if you manage to avoid the brunt of the attack, you’ll still need healing. You’ll know this attack is coming when the image turns red and the Goliath raises its limbs for a swing.
Goliath will always try to stay facing you; he won’t want to expose his back, as that’s his weak spot and the key to defeating this giant Pest.
How to defeat Goliath
While defeating this monster would be easier with a team, it’s entirely doable solo. Goliath’s army of Wreckers is massive ; there will be more enemies in a single area than you’ve seen in all of Arcadia-7, so separating Goliath from them is crucial . If you’re playing solo, retreating is the best tactic . You’ll need to run, shoot, and repeat until you’ve drawn Goliath far enough away from his horde.
As noted, Goliath will do everything possible to remain facing you , and if you try to circle around him, he’ll annoyingly simply turn with you. If possible, jump up when he charges and gain the high ground .
Then quickly move around behind him to shoot his legs and rear . However, if you time it right, you can simply jump to the side as he charges and fire at the sides of his legs.
If you’re playing in a team, you’ll need one person to lure the Goliath, forcing it to follow you and charge at you while the others fire from behind. Killing a Goliath doesn’t require a lot of firepower ; accuracy is key. However, a pistol or a resource harvester won’t be effective enough for this task, and you’ll likely die before it’s complete.
When first encountering a Goliath, it might be tempting to simply run away , but the main problem isn’t the massive creature itself, but the swarm that accompanies it . However, if you keep a safe distance and pick off enemies a few at a time, defeating the Goliath and collecting a sample for analysis becomes much easier.
When separating a Goliath from its swarm, try not to wander so far that you’ll pick up more enemies along the way. Remember, alien creatures roam freely throughout the world, and you don’t want to be caught off guard. Be aware of your surroundings.
