Nioh 3 Guide: How to Find All Kodama

Below is a detailed breakdown of all the Kodama locations in Nioh 3, from the most easily accessible to the most hidden.

Kodama is a miniature, cute yokai (unlike many demons you fight throughout Nioh 3), and are one of the game’s main collectibles. They’re worth finding not only for achievements, but also to power up the potions you use to heal your protagonist.

It’s important to understand why it’s worth seeking out these little green “men”: besides the fact that they’re incredibly friendly, constantly jumping and waving at you, for every Kodama you find and send to the shrine through normal interaction, you’ll earn Kodama Points.

These items can be spent at the Shrine to increase the drop rate of elixirs, improve their healing effectiveness, and unlock two additional bonuses they can provide. The bonuses are gradually increased by a percentage, but they will accumulate as you find more Kodama.

Helping them will also increase the number of elixirs you can carry, from three to a maximum of eight. The more Kodama you find, the better your chances against powerful story bosses , Blood Demons, or Ghosts. .

They can also drop Kodama Soul Essences. By placing them in the Yin position of a shrine, you can summon one to continuously heal the protagonist for a few seconds. By placing a Soul Essence in the Yang position, you can transform into the Kodama itself, allowing you to remain unnoticed and avoid enemy encounters. It goes without saying that collecting these charming creatures is only beneficial.

There are a total of 92 Kodama to be found across three different in-game maps. That’s certainly a lot, but with our guide, you’ll be able to quickly find each creature.

Nioh 3 Guide: How to Find All Kodama

Kodama No. 1 – Tenryu River

You’ll encounter the first Kodama slightly northwest of Overlook Hill Shrine, the first shrine in the open world . Either carefully jump off the rocks ahead, or take the southern path and turn right, passing through the flooded fields.

Nioh 3 Guide: How to Find All Kodama

You need to find a huge stone with lanterns and a slanted torii gate. Climb it from the south side to find a kodama next to an abandoned shrine.

Kodama No. 2 – Tenryu River

The next stage is in the north, inside the enemy camp. For the Kodama to allow itself to be “rescued,” you’ll first have to clear the camp of all the bandits.

Nioh 3 Guide: How to Find All Kodama

Defeat all enemies in the area to trigger a message about a Kodama’s appearance. Head to the red chest in the center of the enemy camp to find the Kodama. Also, interact with the small chest just southeast to find a teaching text.

Kodama No. 3 – Tenryu River

The third kodama on the Tenryu River is located to the west. Follow it until you reach the Hamamatsu Gate Shrine. Enter the small outpost north of it and climb the watchtower on the right to find this kodama.

Nioh 3 Guide: How to Find All Kodama

Kodama No. 4 – Tenryu River

The last kodama on the Tenryu River is located on the outskirts of this area. Follow the path south from Lookout Hill Shrine until you see a house with a locked door on the left. In front of it is a ramp that leads to the top of the building. You can drop down through a hole in the roof.

Nioh 3 Guide: How to Find All Kodama

Be aware that inside the house there is a sleeping gaki that you must defeat, as well as a cute green spirit that you are trying to save.

Nioh 3 Guide: How to Find All Kodama

Kodama No. 5 – Tokaido

If you follow the road south and then east from the previous kodama’s location, you’ll come across the Ikeda Ferry Shrine. Continue east to find an enemy base located in the middle of the beach. But instead of the usual bandits, you’ll find yokai here.

Nioh 3 Guide: How to Find All Kodama

Defeat all the yokai in the camp, then go behind the house closest to the beach. You’ll find a kodama and a chest there.

Kodama No. 6 – Tokaido

South of Ikeda Ferry Shrine, in the heart of the Tōkaido region, lies the Forest of Souls Shrine. From here, head west to find a winding stone staircase. Climb it and continue until you find a small wooden bridge leading to a huge rocky platform.

Nioh 3 Guide: How to Find All Kodama

In the center is a large pond and several stone platforms. The pond is deeper than you might think, so you might want to use Ninja Style to jump to the lone Kodama near the ruined shrine.

Kodama No. 7 – Tokaido

To reach the Tokaido Shrine of the same name, head straight west from the Ikeda Ferry Shrine along a dirt road.

Nioh 3 Guide: How to Find All Kodama

To the south are rolling hills and a huge tree, around which several yokai are perched. A kodama sits on a stump directly in front of the tree.

Nioh 3 Guide: How to Find All Kodama

Kodama No. 8 – Hamamatsu

1st

To reach the first shrine in Hamamatsu and the Kodama, you’ll need to walk a bit. From Tokaido Shrine, head west and pass through the small, ruined Hamamatsu Post Town. After the first house, turn left. A little further on, you’ll see a familiar green glow, just out of reach, inside another house.

Nioh 3 Guide: How to Find All Kodama

Turn right and deal with the two soldiers. Go around the house to the left or use the hay to climb onto the roof, then jump over the fence. Now you can reach the entrance to the house where the Kodama is.

Kodama No. 9 – Hamamatsu

From the first shrine, “Post Town Hamamatsu,” continue west. Once you reach a mostly open street surrounded by buildings with enemies, enter the house on the right. Defeat the ambushed Gaki and climb the stairs.

Nioh 3 Guide: How to Find All Kodama

Jump out the window and turn left. Around the corner, on the edge of the roof, you’ll see a Kodama. Jump onto the hay, then double jump to reach the cute little green “man.”

Kodama No. 10 – Hamamatsu

The easiest way to reach the next Kodama is to return to the path west of Hamamatsu Postal Town Shrine. There will be plenty of enemies to attack, including a couple on the rooftops. If you’re worried about the huge Yama-Inu demon wolf , try not to attack anyone while it’s nearby.

Nioh 3 Guide: How to Find All Kodama

Follow the Yama-inu’s path until it leads to a bridge. Turn left to walk between the houses. Defeat the yokai, then go through a small passage where you’ll see a stone lantern. To the left is a well with a stone tied to the edge. Attack the stone to knock it to the bottom. This will cause a bucket to rise from the bottom, revealing a cute kodama hiding inside .

Kodama No. 11 – Hamamatsu

The final Kodama in Hamamatsu can be found after completing the first Crucible. Warp to the “Hamamatsu Castle: East Gate” shrine, enter the area on the right, and then turn right again.

Nioh 3 Guide: How to Find All Kodama

Kodama is in the corner of the next location, standing on some hay bales.

Nioh 3 Guide: How to Find All Kodama

Kodama No. 12 – Lake Sanaru

Starting from the Lake Sanaru (North) Shrine, you’ll need to head north. The path splits into two, and you should take the right route. Defeat the enemy skeletons, then look behind the wagon to find a hidden Kodama.

Nioh 3 Guide: How to Find All Kodama

Kodama No. 13 – Lake Sanaru

The remaining Kodama in this area are located closer to the southern edge of Sanaru. Teleport to the “Lake Sanaru: Shore” shrine and approach the pier.

Nioh 3 Guide: How to Find All Kodama

You’ll have to clear out an enemy camp consisting of docks and a giant ship . Kodama will appear in a cabin on the ship’s roof after the base is destroyed.

Kodama No. 14 – Lake Sanaru

Luckily, you don’t have to go far to the next kodama. You may have noticed a multitude of tiny boats moored to a huge ship.

Nioh 3 Guide: How to Find All Kodama

Switch to Ninja Style with the R key and carefully navigate the platforms between the boats. Kodama is standing at the stern of the boat.

Kodama No. 15 – Lake Sanaru

South of the giant ship is the Lesser Furnace, where you can fight a yokai. Break the crystal, then cross the wooden bridge to find Sunekosuri. Feel free to follow him, as he’ll lead you along the same path you need to take to find the Kodama.

Nioh 3 Guide: How to Find All Kodama

Jump off the left side of the bridge and follow the spirit vein. Jump up the rocks until you reach a torii gate. Descend along the left side and circle around the gate on the platforms until you reach a clearing with a large red tree.

2nd

Jump over to the small island nearby and look behind the rock to find the last Kodama in Lake Sanaru.

Nioh 3 Guide: How to Find All Kodama

Kodama No. 16 – Maisaka

The first Maisaki Kodama is located east of the Maisaki Crossing Shrine. Eliminate the sentry and two patrolling soldiers before entering the house on the left. The Kodama is located in the far corner.

Nioh 3 Guide: How to Find All Kodama

Kodama No. 17 – Maisaka

The remaining Kodama in Maysaka are located in the Phantom Caves. The first one is located near the Phantom Caves: Hall of Illumination shrine.

Nioh 3 Guide: How to Find All Kodama

To find the Kodama, after going deeper into the caves and exiting a short tunnel, you need to duck and crouch, turn right and jump onto 3 platforms.

Kodama No. 18 – Maisaka

Continue exploring the caves beyond the previous kodama until you encounter the flying, sword-wielding yokai Kyokotsu. Defeat him, then ascend the cascade of glowing blue pools.

Nioh 3 Guide: How to Find All Kodama

Jump across two platforms, fight the half-snake yokai Nure-onna, and then use Enko’s spirit vein to wall-run across the gap.

Then, instead of jumping across the wooden planks to the next platform, turn right and follow the narrow path. Defeat the Crucible Wasp along the way, then pick up the Kodama.

Kodama No. 19 – Maisaka

Starting from the Haunted Caves: Stone Pool Shrine, descend the steps and head east. You’ll find yourself in the area where the Bakegani Crab Yokai hides.

Nioh 3 Guide: How to Find All Kodama

Defeat him, then head over the small hill nearby to find a corpse you can loot. On the other side of the hill stands a Kodama, peeking out from behind a deep lake.

Kodama No. 20 – Lake Hamana

During your first visit to Lake Hamana, you’ll have to try to appease Deidara-bochi. The only kodama in the region is located in Horie Castle . Unfortunately, he’s locked in a cell .

Nioh 3 Guide: How to Find All Kodama

Fight your way through the enemy groups and head to the castle roof. Just before climbing the numerous short steps leading to the Deidara-bochi offering, turn right and search the corpse hanging over the edge to obtain the cell keys.

Nioh 3 Guide: How to Find All Kodama

From here, you can descend the fortress wall and reach the pier you passed through earlier. Head to the large area with the gate and use the cell keys to access the kodama inside.

Nioh 3 Guide: How to Find All Kodama

Kodama #21 – Hamamatsu Hill

Between the Lower Furnace and the Silver Grass Meadow Shrine is a gate separating the Futamata Road and Hamamatsu Hill areas. On the other side of this gate is a staircase leading to the house below, which contains a kodama.

Nioh 3 Guide: How to Find All Kodama

The only catch is that there’s an enemy camp right here. Defeat all the enemies, and only then will another Kodama appear.

Kodama #22 – Hamamatsu Hill

This Kodama is available after completing several side quests. After completing the second part of the “Naotora’s Land of Destiny” quest, which also unlocks the Hand Cannon, she will give you the key to the mountain temple to begin the “Ii Monument” quest.

Nioh 3 Guide: How to Find All Kodama

3rd

Quickly travel to Mikatagahara Crossing Shrine and climb the spiral staircase behind you. Cross the bridge, open the gate with the Mountain Temple Key, and destroy the enemy base. The Kodama is located to the left of the shrine building itself, in a beautiful spot overlooking the surrounding lands, and literally blends in with the grass.

Kodama #23 – Hamamatsu Hill

At the final shrine on Hamamatsu Hill, you’ll face a powerful open-world boss. Between Mikatagahara Crossing Shrine and Juji Fortress (North) lies a cluster of enemy outposts, presumably named Juji Fortress.

Nioh 3 Guide: How to Find All Kodama

Kodama is located right behind the optional boss, Ogin, who spews blood. He’s a powerful claw-wielding fighter, but you can dispatch him fairly quickly with long-ranged weapons.

Nioh 3 Guide: How to Find All Kodama

Kodama No. 24 – Iinoya

The first Kodama in Iinoe is located near the Temple Ruins: Cemetery shrine. Turn around and go through the gate. Turn right and jump over the stone fence to find this Kodama near the bamboo trees.

Nioh 3 Guide: How to Find All Kodama

Kodama No. 25 – Iinoya

The second kodama in the Iinoya region is located not far from the previous one. From the “Temple Ruins: Cemeteries” shrine, turn right and go through the gate leading to the towering pagoda.

Nioh 3 Guide: How to Find All Kodama

Turn right again and exit through the broken wall to find a huge, twisted tree. Climb it, and you’ll see a kodama on the pagoda’s roof.

Kodama No. 26 – Iinoya

The third kodama is located relatively nearby. From the base of this huge tree, squeeze through the opening on the left and jump over the fence.

Nioh 3 Guide: How to Find All Kodama

Descend the stone steps until you reach a staircase lined with wooden torch stands. Then turn left and run through the abandoned open market.

In the corner, behind some boxes, is a kodama.

Kodama No. 27 – Iinoya

To reach the next green “man,” teleport to Omomiji Crossing Shrine and head west. Look for the big-headed shunobon yokai standing on the rocks, then climb higher to find another kodama.

Nioh 3 Guide: How to Find All Kodama

Kodama No. 28 – Iinoya

Remember that large, twisted tree and pagoda where you found Kodama #25 (see above)? As part of the “Dwellers in Shadow” side quest , climb all the stairs in the pagoda and discover a body that will drop the Abandoned Village Key

Nioh 3 Guide: How to Find All Kodama

Head to the area between Omomiji Crossing and Great Ginkgo Path Shrines and use the key. Fight your way through the crowd until you reach the third house, then circle around it to find the Kodama.

Kodama No. 29 – Iinoya

The first accessible Kodama in Ryotan Temple is located directly in front of the “Ryotan Temple Living Quarters” shrine. From this shrine, head back, turn the corner, and enter the second room on the right.

Nioh 3 Guide: How to Find All Kodama

Defeat all the enemies inside and look behind the stack of books in the corner to find a spirit in need of help.

Kodama No. 30 – Iinoya

The second kodama inside Ryōtan Shrine is located on the left edge of the region. After passing numerous yōkai, you’ll come across a raised wooden platform with a large bell you can strike.

Nioh 3 Guide: How to Find All Kodama

Climb the ladder and then jump onto the nearby rocks to reach the kodama.

Kodama No. 31 – Iinoya

From the previous kodama’s location, jump down and head left from the nearest building. After defeating a couple of yokai and possibly a ghost, you’ll see an opening leading to a kodama hidden under the building.

Nioh 3 Guide: How to Find All Kodama

Kodama No. 32 – Iinoya

The next kodama is located very close to the previous one, number 31. Return to the building entrance, defeat the yoki ninja, and climb the stairs. Cross to the temple roof and turn right to find the kodama at the very end.

Nioh 3 Guide: How to Find All Kodama

Kodama No. 33 – Iinoya

And here’s another Kodama, which, like the previous ones, is located close to the other creatures in Ryotan Temple. Go back and walk along the left side of the temple roof to reach a ladder. Jump down and head into the water.

The first Kodama in Futamata is located near the southern shrine, where Hattori Hanzo is also located with his “Find the Infiltrator” side quest.

Nioh 3 Guide: How to Find All Kodama

Make your way to the upper levels in the eastern part of the area. The Kodama is on the roof of a building. To reach it, use the hay bales lying on its side.

Kodama #38 – Futamata

Next comes the only Kodama not found inside the castle. Warp to the Futamata Castle: Castle Town shrine and cross the bridge.

Nioh 3 Guide: How to Find All Kodama

Climb to the upper level and defeat the soldier near the leftmost house. Examine the left side of the house to find a Kodama.

Kodama #39 – Futamata

The next two kodama are located close to each other. After passing through the castle grounds and the three-room building next to the watchtower, you’ll see a kodama that’s out of reach due to a spiked wall.

Nioh 3 Guide: How to Find All Kodama

Continue fighting until you reach an archer with incendiary arrows. To his right is a small space leading to three illusory bamboo bundles. On the other side is a kodama.

Kodama #40 – Futamata

The next Kodama is located near the second group of snipers shooting at you from the castle walls. Deal with them, then approach the only closed door of the shop behind them.

Nioh 3 Guide: How to Find All Kodama

Kodama #42 – Futamata

Climb the stairs from the Futamata and Koguchi Castle Crossing Shrine up the path. Cross the makeshift bridge.

Nioh 3 Guide: How to Find All Kodama

Nioh 3 Guide: How to Find All Kodama

Jump to the roof to rescue the charming spirit.

Nioh 3 Guide: How to Find All Kodama

Kodama #44 – Mikatagahara

I’ve left Mikatagahara for last in this guide, as it contains the last four kodama of the current era (Act 1). Long before that, the first kodama can be found on the road connecting Mikatagahara and Hamamatsu Hill.

As you follow the eastern path from Mikatagahara Crossing Shrine, you’ll likely notice a green glow emanating from a small rooftop stacked with hay and other supplies. Run past it and continue looking to the right until you see some stairs you can climb.

Nioh 3 Guide: How to Find All Kodama

Head back, using the tree to move between the rocky platforms, and you’ll soon be able to jump to save the Kodama.

Kodama #45 – Mikatagahara

From the Mikatagahara Shrine: Kikyo’s Fortress, turn right and you’ll see a kodama on top of a large rock just around the corner. Go behind this rock to find a stable foothold you can climb onto and help the little spirit find its way to the shrine.

Nioh 3 Guide: How to Find All Kodama

Kodama #51 – Mount Kurama

While there are far fewer kodama in the Heian period, I want to emphasize that the three you can find on Mount Kurama are completely forgettable. Mount Kurama is considered a separate area without a level of exploration and is located far north of the main region. This means you can’t rely on a handy checklist. If your list looks “complete” but you’re still missing one or two, they’re likely located here.

Nioh 3 Guide: How to Find All Kodama

The first Kodama is hard to miss, as it’s at the end of a section involving jumping across platforms and tree roots. You’re being pursued by a Yamainu here, which can make you forget everything and simply never return.

Kodama #52 – Mount Kurama

From the Mount Kurama Shrine: Chokushi Gate, go straight ahead, then turn left and follow the path until you reach a gate that serves as a shortcut to the same route you just took. Climb the stairs on the right, then walk around the fence in front of you to find the next kodama.

Nioh 3 Guide: How to Find All Kodama

Kodama #53 – Mount Kurama

After following the previous path, cross the bridge and defeat the one-eyed oni.

Kodama No. 65 – Hachijo

The next three Kodama are found in Rashomon. The first can be found immediately after the first two spider monsters.

Nioh 3 Guide: How to Find All Kodama

Before entering the interior of the small fortress through the hole in the wall, you’ll see a wall scroll with a tear. Run through it to find a door on the right side that hides a shortcut, and a Kodama behind some crates on the left.

Kodama No. 66 – Hachijo

From the last kodama, go through the previously mentioned hole in the wall and go around the inside of the building. On the other side is a well where you can find a kodama.

Nioh 3 Guide: How to Find All Kodama

Kodama No. 67 – Hachijo

The final kodama in Hachijo is located on the roof of the central building in Rashomon. Make your way to the “Rashomon: Mibu Avenue” shrine and then turn right. Defeat all the mages along the way, then the resting soldiers on the other side of the pagoda.

Kodama #71 – Shimabara

Starting from the starting shrine, “Shimabara Entertainment District: South Gate,” walk down the main street and then turn into the alley on the left. On your first visit, you’ll see the ghost of Crucible holding a Karakas umbrella.

Nioh 3 Guide: How to Find All Kodama

Proceed to the end of the alley and use the hay bales to climb to the next floor of the building. Cross the outer roof to reach the kodama.

Kodama #72 – Shimabara

At the other end of the main street is the exit (if you’ve completed the quest here) and a crooked tree. Just behind this ugly tree is a small hole containing a kodama.

Nioh 3 Guide: How to Find All Kodama

Kodama #73 – Shimabara

The next kodama is visible from the street, but to “activate” it, you’ll need to venture deeper into the main building of Shimabara. While exploring the first floor, you’ll come across a room with an ubume. Defeat the enemy to safely interact with the kodama.

Nioh 3 Guide: How to Find All Kodama
