A detailed guide to completing the side quest “Have Your Fish and Eat It,” given by bar owner John Brown before the start of the main mission “Salty Kambozo.” We’ll explain how to start the quest and find canned herring in Slaughter Bay.

The game offers more than just linear missions from point A to point B. There are also side quests! None of the side missions are particularly difficult, but you can skip both their beginnings and their completion objectives.
In this guide, we’ll cover the “Eat Your Fish and Eat It” side quest, which takes place in Slaughter Bay. It’s easy to complete, but under certain circumstances, it can be missed. We’ll explain what you need to do to get one step closer to the “Fearless Bloodhound” achievement, especially the reward from the prize machine in the Little & Big bar.
How to start the “Have Your Cake and Eat It” quest
About halfway through the main storyline, you’ll unlock the main quest “Salty Kambozo.” This happens after you pin another batch of evidence to the bulletin board in the detective’s office . Once the main quest appears in your to-do list (and on-screen), consider it a cue to unlock the side quest “Eat Your Cakes and Eat Your Cakes.”
Talk to John Brown, the bartender at Little & Big. He’ll ask Jack Pepper to get an ingredient for a new dish found in Slaughter Bay. Specifically, you need Marina 8-ED canned herring. John also warns that obtaining these cans may be a real test for some of our detective’s senses.
After that (and also make sure you’ve picked up Cornelius Stilton’s side quest, “Imported Goods”), get in the car and head to Slaughter Bay.
How to complete the “Have Your Cake and Eat It” quest
Once you reach the story location for the “Salty Kambozo” quest, provided you’ve activated the current side quest , continue on. Eventually, on your way to the main objective, you’ll reach a building with a heart pierced by a dagger depicted on its brick facade. Enter the building, as required by the game for the story quest (although you can climb up without entering the building).

Climb the steps and reach a huge pit you’ll need to cross to continue the story mission. But don’t rush! Look down to see the precious Marina 8-ED herring that John needs. Head down to pick up the canned herring.
This fish smells so bad it’s created a toxic environment at the bottom of the pit. It’s so bad that you’ll immediately begin taking physical damage. Pick up the herring as quickly as possible and then return to the surface before you suffocate to death.

All that remains is to complete the story mission (while making sure you find the goods for Stilton in the parallel side mission “Imported Goods”) and return to John Brown’s bar.
Reward
After talking with John Brown and hearing his reproaches about how disgusting it all is, he will take the canned herring from Jack and at the same time pay a reward.
It may seem like a small thing, but he’ll give you one bonus token for the vending machine in the bar. If you collect 20 tokens (no more), you’ll be able to open the bonus cabinet in the corner of the bar. This will net you a secret weapon, the RazMeshator X1 ray gun. It’s the only weapon that won’t unlock automatically.
