As part of the “Damaged Monument” quest, gunsmith Tian Wen asks you to find three mementos for her. As always, you’ll have to do this on the Surface! If you don’t want to waste time searching on your own, this guide will show you how to locate all the objectives and complete the quest as quickly as possible , earning valuable rewards.
You need to find three items in the junkyard and deliver them to Tian Wen. Here are all the quest objectives:
- Get to the memorial site next to the scrap metal dump.
- Find the compass among the broken cars.
- Look for the video cassette near the cylindrical containers.
- Search the old field rations in the raider camp.
- Deliver the First Wave tape to Tian Wen.
- Deliver the First Wave compass to Tian Wen.
- Deliver First Wave rations to Tian Wen.
The mission consists of seven stages, which can be confusing and a bit frustrating in its complexity, but in reality, every second stage builds on the previous one. Did you inspect the broken cars and find the compass? You’re guaranteed to deliver the item to Tian Wen, even if you fail to successfully evacuate the location and die. This means the gunsmith won’t have to physically carry anything, as these items don’t appear in her inventory.
The hardest part of this quest is that you have to “loot” (essentially inspect) all the items in one round. If you die, you’ll have to start over. To avoid this, try equipping the “Loot III” booster to unlock three secret pockets at once. Even if you die, you can still complete the quest.
Get to the memorial site next to the scrap metal dump
All three items can be found in the Scrap Yard at the bottom of the “Dam Battlefield” map. If you open the map and place a marker in the forested area to the left of the “Test Room,” you’ll easily find your way there. Reach the southern end of the Scrap Yard to complete the first objective.
Find a compass among broken cars
Tian Wen may have sent you chasing something well-hidden, but at least she gave you clues as to where to find each of the three items. The compass can be found near the wrecked cars scattered haphazardly among the trees. Look for it in the lower left corner of the “Scrap Metal Junkyard” sign on the map.
Once you find the rectangular-shaped vehicles that look like trucks or buses (they’re actually trucks), you’ll notice they form a small triangular niche. Make your way to the center of these three vehicles and pick up the compass from the ground next to one of the trucks.
Look for the video cassette near the cylindrical containers
The next item on Tian Wen’s treasure hunt list is a First Wave tape , or simply “the tape,” as it’s known at this point in the mission. It can be found on the ground next to one of the two cylindrical containers lying east of the compass. The cylindrical containers may seem rather vague at first glance, but once you see them, everything becomes clear.
Cylindrical containers are very large pipes, half-buried in the ground. Approach one of these pipes (the one sticking out of the ground is the one you’re interested in) and look for the required item, highlighted in yellow, next to it.
Search the old field rations in the raider camp
Old Field Rations are one of the easiest items to find, thanks to the huge metal shed containing a crate of rations. This shed is located north of the “Scrap Metal Dump” sign on the map, so head north/northeast from the cylindrical containers and keep a close eye out for the structure. It’s hollow, with no walls to the left or right, like a large, hollowed-out train hull .
Enter the structure and crouch to search the small crate against the wall. You’ll receive First Wave Rations.
All that’s left is to return to Speranza for your reward! If you have all three items, you’ll be able to complete several objectives at once.
The “Damaged Monument” mission can be challenging due to the need to find the necessary items. However, the rewards more than make up for the time spent (especially since they can be reduced). First, you’ll receive the Arpeggio I weapon—an assault rifle chambered for medium-caliber ammunition, boasting fairly good handling and damage. You’ll also receive the “Compensator II” weapon modification, which reduces spread, and finally, some medium-caliber ammunition for the Arpeggio I or other weapons. The Compensator can be installed on the same rifle.
