Equipment and design

Red Square Rox Gaming Headphones

The Red Square Rox was packaged in a large white box. The front features a picture of the model and lists its key features, such as a foldable microphone with auto-mute, ergonomic design, and a modular sound card with 7.1 support. The back features a list of technical specifications.

The headphones are mounted on a cardboard base. A flexible nylon-braided cord extends from the left earcup, ending in a 3.5mm plug. This plug can be plugged directly into an audio source—for example, a 3.5mm jack on a PC or console gamepad —or connected to the included sound card, which features controls, a flexible cable, and a USB-A connector.

In other words, the Red Square Rox supports two connection options. If you use a 3.5mm jack, the audio will be processed at the source. If you use USB, the sound card will handle the signal processing.

The sound card houses the main controls. These allow you to enable virtual 7.1 surround sound, adjust headphone volume and microphone sensitivity, mute the headphone and microphone, and switch equalizer modes. An LED indicator indicates when virtual 7.1 surround sound is active and the selected equalizer mode.

The headphones themselves only have a volume control wheel. The folding microphone, meanwhile, automatically turns on when in the open position (down) and turns off when raised and retracted into the headphone housing.

The Red Square Rox model boasts a classic design with oval earcups and a massive headband, but its color scheme is eye-catching: the earcups are white and adorned with tactile geometric lines in black and red. The headband, earcup hinges, microphone, and earpads are all black. This combination isn’t exactly unusual, but it’s certainly interesting.

The headband is covered in eco-leather and filled with soft foam on the inside. The ear pads are made of eco-leather on the outside and fabric on the inside, providing good passive noise isolation and comfort where they touch the scalp. The inside of the ear pads is filled with cooling gel, preventing sweating while gaming.

The earcups are made of a pleasant-to-touch, matte, and stain-resistant plastic. The foldable microphone has a single position and feels rather fragile—you don’t want to tug on it without a reason.

Impressions of use

The Red Square Rox connects to PCs and other devices ( smartphones , game consoles) via a 3.5mm jack and USB. Once connected, the headset is ready to use immediately ; no additional software is required, and setup can be done using native OS tools or third-party software.

The headphones fit perfectly on your head, and despite their considerable weight (321 g), they don’t press. The ear pads fit snugly against your skin, providing excellent passive noise isolation—surrounding sounds are audible but muted, and don’t interfere with your gaming experience. The cooling gel prevents sweating, making them comfortable to wear even for several hours at a time.

The build quality is also worth noting. The fastenings are sturdy, there’s no looseness at the joints, and it doesn’t feel like the device will fall apart if accidentally dropped.

The Red Square Rox sounds great. The sound is smooth, without any kick drum effect or harsh highs. The best description for this headset is “all-round”: the sound is equally comfortable for gaming, watching videos, and listening to music. It’s an everyday option, perfect for those who spend a lot of time on their PC and consume a wide variety of content.

There are two built-in equalizer modes: one slightly emphasizes bass, while the other, conversely, rolls off low frequencies and makes the sound slightly flatter. Meanwhile, the virtual 7.1 surround sound mode creates a three-dimensional effect and improves positioning. It’s not suitable for every scenario: for example, when listening to music, it can create an echo effect. However, in games, this mode can help you more accurately pinpoint the position of enemies and the direction of gunfire.

The headset’s microphone transmits sound clearly; during test calls, callers reported that speech remained clear and distinct. However, the omnidirectional pattern can pick up ambient sounds, so background noise may intrude into your conversation with your teammates.

Conclusion

Red Square Rox Gaming Headphones

The Red Square Rox are a good budget gaming headset. With a comfortable fit, balanced sound, a high-quality microphone, and excellent reliability, this headset has virtually no flaws.

Of course, some may miss the setup app or need a more advanced microphone, but aside from these issues, the model demonstrates a more than respectable level of performance, earning it our Editor’s Choice award. However, as always, we’ll leave the final decision up to you.

Pros
  • Comfortable fit
  • High-quality sound
  • Good microphone
