Resident Evil Requiem Guide: How to Beat the Orphanage and Escape the Children

The events at the orphanage take place eight years before the events in Raccoon City. A girl named Chloe, who bears a striking resemblance to Emily, awakens in her room to a strange noise: all the other children have disappeared.

If you remember the scene with young Sherry Birkin from the Resident Evil 2 remake , the next episode will feel familiar in many ways! You’re unarmed, and the only way to survive is to stay hidden and avoid enemy detection.

First, exit the room and head down the hallway. Interact with the door to trigger a cutscene with the other children and “caregivers.” It’s time to hide !

Quickly return to the bedroom you just woke up in and hide under the bed using the interaction key.

The frantic children will try to find Chloe, even jumping on the same bed, but they won’t look under it. Don’t do anything and wait: soon there will be a noise, and all the children will run away. After that, you can crawl out from under the bed and follow them.

Return to the large playroom where the children killed the doctor. Turn left from the corpse, crouch, and crawl under the toy arch. Leave the room.

In the main hall, go down the large staircase until you hear a knock. The children have returned upstairs, knocking on the window of the room you were just in. Eventually, one of the children will break the window, and you’ll have to hide once again.

The doors can’t be opened right now, so look for a small table under the stairs directly across from the closed door and hide underneath it. Soon, the kids will start jumping on top of you, and one will even plop down on the floor right in front of you, then get up as if nothing happened.

Wait for one of the children to open the nearest door and for the other two to go back up the stairs. Luckily, crazy kids aren’t very observant.

Go through the door that opens. Two children will get stuck in the hallway. It’s unclear whether this is a glitch, but as soon as you or they notice you, run back to the previous room, walk around for a bit, and then return to the hallway again—the children will disappear. Just in case, you can hide under the table opposite that very door, under the stairs.

Eventually, you’ll find yourself in the director’s room. Walk around the shelves and head to the desk by the window, where you’ll notice a locked hatch in the floor.

Turn around and walk the other way along the wall to find a table lamp opposite the chair ; turn on this lamp to reveal a key hanging on the wall.

To get it, pull out the bottom drawer of the nightstand, creating a platform, and climb onto it. The girl will try to snatch the key from the hook and fall, after which you need to climb down and pick it up from the floor.

A few moments later, one of the children will break the window above the hatch, and you’ll have to seek cover again. Run to the far corner behind the table with the lamp on and duck behind the boxes.

The children will get dangerously close, but will become distracted and leave the room. Once everyone is gone, return to the hatch. Opening the hatch will attract the children’s attention again. Quickly descend the stairs to the basement.

Follow the dark corridor down the steps using the light from the toy fire truck and you will soon find a large door leading to an eerie underground chapel.

Go to the back of the chapel, past the pulpit; a large stone slab will open, revealing the Umbrella logo. The door itself will then open. Beyond it is a folded ladder. You won’t be able to reach it without tools. The girl is too small. But there’s a wall lever nearby. Pull it to turn on the light in a small alcove next to the chapel and open the gate.

You’ll see several coffins in the room. One of the first coffins on the right can be opened—it contains a leg tag, which is part of the documents. A little further on, there’s a closed gate you can climb over, using the nearby coffin as a step. You’ll eventually fall onto an old mattress. In a small area, look for a poker—it’s long enough to reach the folded ladder. Unlock the gate and return to the ladder. Children will appear.

Even though there are a lot of them, you can quickly run past them and use the poker on the stairs. Then, climb up the stairs.

You’ll find yourself in a bright research lab with white walls and various equipment. Follow the corridor and find a door with green panels in the center. Open it to enter a new room. In this lab, there’s a document on the nearest table, and a second one a little further on.

Then, go to the room with the movie projector and use the control panel. Toggle the sliders until you’ve seen everything, which will trigger the final cutscene of the chapter.
