Each Metroid game has its own unique features, but one thing they all have in common is the vast number of items to find. Metroid Prime 4: Beyond continues this tradition.
As the Prime series progressed, the developers found ways to make finding every last item easier. In this game, Reconnaissance Bots became that assistant. Here’s everything you need to know about them and where to find them.
Scout Bots are small, seemingly non-functional mechanisms found throughout the world of Vyuros. They always remain in their original location , so you can easily find them again if you fail to activate them the first time.
Once activated, the bot flies into the sky for a moment, then lands and deactivates. However, upon landing, it will mark the precise location of every undiscovered item in the region where it was activated.
This works for the entire region map. For example, if you activate the bot in the Ice Belt on the surface, it will show all items in the entire Ice Belt , both on the surface and in the labs below.
You’ll likely encounter almost all the bots in the game before you even get the chance to activate them. Being mechanical, they require a powerful energy boost to activate , which can only be provided by the Lightning Shot.
The Lightning Shot is the final upgrade for Samus’s cannon, unlocked by acquiring the Thunder Chip. This chip is located in the Voltaic Forge and is available after acquiring the Psi Hook.
Once you have the Lightning Shot, all you need to do is briefly zap the Scout Bot to get it up and then scan it . It will then take off and reveal any remaining items before returning to its original location and entering its permanent hibernation.
There are a total of six Reconnaissance Bots to find in the game —one in each key location. Here’s where they are.
Since you need a Lightning Shot to activate the bots anyway, by this point you’re guaranteed to have all the other tools you need to get to them.
The scout bot in the Valley of the Sun is incredibly close to your first landing spot , but you can only reach it after you get the Psi Boots.
It’s located in the southwestern corner of the map, just before the entrance to the Voltaic Forge . After activating it and jumping across the psionic platforms, you’ll find the bot deep within this isolated area.
You’ll almost certainly see this bot during your first playthrough of the Furious Green location, as it’s on the way to the Psi Gauntlet .
He can be found in the Cliff Gate area , just before the Tree Chapel. Charge him to reveal all the missing items.
It’s easy to get lost in the Voltaic Forge, as all the towers look quite similar from a distance, and even with the help of clues, it’s easy to lose your way. This little bot is located at the Tower 2 generator in, you guessed it, Tower 2 .
Once you enter this zone, you’ll find him on the left, sitting at the very edge. You’d think all that lightning would have activated this guy long ago, but the task still falls to you.
When you first enter the Ice Belt, you’ll find yourself in a large, open area called the Snowfield . You’ll be attacked by Snow Wolves in the center, but just before that, to your right, you’ll find a ton of vehicle wreckage.
These Snow Wolves will never appear again , so try to scan them while you’re here.
This tiny Scout Bot is half-buried in the snow , but its metal body still stands out against the white snow. A Lightning Shot blast will bring it back to life and reveal all the hidden items in the Ice Belt.
When you first arrive at the Lake of Flames, you won’t be able to progress very far, as a massive lake of lava will quickly halt your adventure. This is a shame, because the Scout Bot is located just on the other side of this flaming lake .
After upgrading VI-O-LA, return to the main hall, to the Lava Lake Bridge, and quickly cross it. You’ll encounter a small barrier on the right . Jump over it to find the next bot and zap it to gain all the benefits.
The final Scout Bot is located in the very last new location on the map. The bot in the Great Mines is also the first one you’ll be able to activate immediately after finding it . Furthermore, by the time you’ve completed exploring the mines, you’ll already have all the necessary abilities, so you likely won’t need to return here more than once.
The bot can be found on the lowest, third level of the Great Mines, in the Main Shaft – Level 3. It’s located in the corner just before the elevator. Scan it to reveal the final missing items.
