I love Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 —so much so, it’s probably my favorite game of 2025. I’ve played through all the expansions, nearly exhausted the side content, and forged so much iron that the sound of hammer hitting anvil is all I hear when I try to sleep. Whatever. The point is, I love this game, but oh my god, where did it all begin? Without having played the first game, I was thrust into a world of rules and systems I didn’t understand, cast into the dirt, and ordered to rise to the highest ranks of nobility with nothing but determination, mediocre stats, and a nasty arrow wound. It was incredibly harsh, but I didn’t realize at the time that the game was gently nudging me toward certain possibilities of becoming something more than a filthy peasant.

Even at the very beginning, my attempt to deal with the bandits at Bozhena’s house in the game’s prologue turned into a disaster: a lot of chaotic swings, head wounds, and unheard cries of “I surrender!” Perhaps this was my fault for choosing the “Advisor” playstyle, which made me moderately knowledgeable about tavern lore but did nothing to enhance my swordsmanship.
It became clear that this wasn’t going to work. After struggling for hours to figure out what to do in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 first—or at least how to maintain my complete lack of progress—I finally realized that playing it like a typical RPG was a surefire way to fail. It’s an immersive simulator, so running around smashing everything in sight like in Skyrim would likely end badly.

Meanwhile, the basics of blacksmithing became a reliable source of income for me, and when I stumbled upon the legendary Lake Axe, I already knew how to forge it into something with a real blade.
And so, having fulfilled my duties as a medieval commoner, I could begin cautiously trying something more dangerous. My weapon in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 was by no means the best, but I had a decent blade, and I’d found enough pieces of Braunschweig armor to keep me from dying on the first strike. Perhaps even more importantly, after a short stint working for the local potion maker, I’d learned how to brew Marigold Brew , a blessed healing potion! Now I could desperately flee from enraged Cumans, frantically sipping the potion, and then turn and hack at them with full force.
And this careful balance—ordinary man by day, dashing hero by night—ultimately paid off. Eventually, I reached the point where I could devote myself entirely to the crusade, jumping around the map and returning to previous regions of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 to clear them of everything I could find. I even had a decent income system in place, so by Act III, I was rolling in cash.
My point is, the most important piece of advice you’ll hear about Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is this: accept that you can’t become a valiant hero right away . You have to get there organically. I promise you’ll get there, but fortune doesn’t only favor the brave—it also favors the patient.
