Hytale is a game with a lot of crafting. You can craft anything in Creative mode, but in the main Exploration mode, you first need resources. One such resource is thorium.
This is the name of a green metal that can be mined and used to craft equipment superior in quality to its crude, copper, or iron counterparts. But first, you have to find it.
As Hytale is in Early Access, this information may change in the future.
Where to find thorium ore
Thorium ore is located in the Howling Sands zone . Its exact location in your world will vary. However, as the name suggests, the area is covered in sand, so look for large yellow sandy areas on the map .
Once in the Howling Sands, you should look for underground caves , as this is where you can mine thorium. This is a shiny green substance embedded in rock . Use a pickaxe to mine the ore and collect it.
How to use thorium ore
There’s little you can do with ore alone, so it needs to be turned into thorium ingots . To do this, you first need to build a furnace on a workbench. This will require the following components:
- 6 tree trunks (any)
- 6 stones
Next, interact with the furnace and place the ore in its center slots . Smelting requires a power source in the left slot . You can use wooden blocks, sticks, or coal . Once loaded , press “Enable” to begin smelting the ore , which will gradually turn into ingots.
Once you have Thorium Ingots, you can craft various items with them . You can make Thorium Tools on a Workbench (requires a Level 2 Workbench), Thorium Weapons on a Blacksmith’s Anvil (requires a Level 2 Anvil), and Thorium Armor on a Weaponsmith’s Workbench (requires a Level 2 Weaponsmith’s Workbench).
All thorium equipment is superior to iron and is on par with cobalt, making it a very effective material.
Thorium armor provides significant poison resistance compared to other types of armor.
