How to get leather in Hytale and set up production

How to get leather in Hytale and set up production

Leather is required for many crafting recipes and equipment upgrades in Hytale , making it a key resource for progression. The process of obtaining leather is fairly straightforward, but it requires time and planning, especially when considering the different types of leather.

Three grades of leather – light, medium and heavy – are obtained from the hides of their respective animals, each used in specific recipes.

Making a dryer for processing skins

Leather is produced by drying animal hides in a special dryer. To build this structure, you’ll first need a workbench and then the following resources:

  • 6 trunks of any tree

  • 3 stones of any type

  • 3 light skins

Tree trunks and stone are ubiquitous, but light hide can only be obtained by hunting small animals—pigs, rabbits, and cows. The latter drop light hide despite their large size, making them an easy target for farming.

Sources of different types of skins

Once the dryer is built, regular hunting of animals will be required to obtain raw materials.

Each type of skin drops from specific creatures:

  • Light hide (for light leather) – rabbits, goats, pigs, cows, deer

  • Medium Hide (for Medium Leather) – Wolves, Swamp Hunters

  • Heavy Hide (for heavy leather) – Bears, Mossy Antlers

The biome directly influences the types of animals encountered. Swamp Hunters, for example, live exclusively in swampy areas and are quite common there. To stock up on Medium Leather, it makes sense to head to the swamps and focus on hunting these creatures.

Optimization of leather production

The most efficient way to obtain animal pelts is to build a livestock ranch. In Hytale , you can lure and tame animals, opening up opportunities for farming various resources. Catching and breeding the livestock listed above will ensure consistent access to animal pelts without the need for constant expeditions.

After collecting the hides, simply place them in a dryer. Automatic processing will transform the raw material into finished leather within a short time. To speed up the process, it’s recommended to install several dryers simultaneously, allowing for the processing of large volumes of material in parallel and maintaining a stable supply of leather for crafting.
