In Hytale, crafting isn’t just about gathering resources and combining them on a workbench. Sometimes, players need to upgrade the workbenches themselves to create advanced items. Obtaining Thunder Leather requires just such preparation.
This guide will tell you how to get Thunder Leather in Hytale, as well as which stations you will need to get it.
How to get Thunder Leather in Hytale

Thunder Leather is a craftable resource. Crafting one piece requires the following components:
- Scraps of Fire Cloth
- Scraps of the Cloth of Shadows
- Scraps of Linen Fabric
- Heavy Skin
Linen Scraps are the most basic component. They drop from common skeletons, which can be found almost anywhere on the map.
The best places to get Fire Cloth Scraps are the Volcanic Biome (often an island in the sea) and the Dinosaur Biome. Most creatures that drop them live in underground caves near lava, so be careful.
Scraps of Shadowcloth drop from barbarians inhabiting the Snowy Mountains biome. Storming their strongholds is a quick way to obtain this resource.
Crafting Thunder Leather requires four of each of these resources. But before you begin, you’ll need the appropriate workstations: a Workbench and a Tannery Rack.

Crafting a Workbench and a Leatherworking Rack is one of the first tasks in the game. However, to unlock the Thunder Leather recipe, you need to upgrade the Workbench to level 3.
This will require significant resources. To reach level 2, you’ll need 30 Copper Ingots, 20 Iron Ingots, and 20 Linen Scraps. To upgrade to level 3, which unlocks the Thunder Leather recipe , you’ll need 30 Thorium Ingots, 20 Cobalt Ingots, 30 Heavy Leather, 50 Shadowcloth Scraps, and 25 Essence of Fire.
After that, all that’s left to do is select the recipe on the Workbench and craft the Thunder Leather. Remember that workbenches only use materials stored in chests within a 12-block horizontal and 4-block vertical radius of the station.
Thunder Leather recipes are disabled in V1 worlds. It is recommended to restart the game after update 2.0 and create a new world using the V2 seed. Please note that V2 worlds are still unstable and in testing.
