The Grimoire of Embers (or Grimoire of Necromancy) is one of the first magical items in Hytale . It allows players to summon a group of friendly skeletal minions to fight for them. However, unlike most items in the game, this grimoire cannot be crafted. Instead, it is a rare enemy drop, which isn’t exactly easy to find. If you want to get your hands on this creepy tome in Hytale, here’s what you need to do.
Where to find the Grimoire “Embers” in Hytale

These spellbooks can drop from Skeletal Praetorians—large and fearsome undead fighters found in Zone 4. In our experience, Praetorians are rarely encountered in most subregions of Zone 4, but are more commonly found in ash-covered areas, as pictured above.

Defeating these enemies has a chance to drop 5 Embers Grimoires, as well as random loot including rare ores.
How to use the Embers grimoire in Hytale

To summon skeletons using a grimoire in Hytale, you’ll first need Skull Piles . The aforementioned Skeletal Praetorians can also drop them, but if you’re unlucky, try searching underground or in key locations where regular skeletons are abundant.
Once you’ve obtained the Skull Pile, place it on your hotbar and then place it in front of you. Equip the Necromancer’s Grimoire, hold down the left mouse button, and release it when the meter is fully charged. A skeletal warrior will emerge from the Skull Pile.

Each summoned minion consumes one Skull Pile and one Embers grimoire . However, there doesn’t seem to be a limit to the number of skeletons you can raise (other than your limited supply of grimoires and skulls, of course). Theoretically, you could raise an entire skeleton graveyard if you can gather enough books and bones.
Skeleton minions will despawn after 5 minutes or if their summoner dies . They also can’t swim and, ironically, will drown if they remain underwater for too long, so try to avoid summoning them near large bodies of water.
Skeletons will only attack enemies you directly hit; otherwise, they’ll simply stand by and watch you get beaten. Finally, your own minions can damage you if you’re in the path of their attacks .
