None of your tools, weapons, or armor pieces in Hytale last forever. Each one loses a little durability with each use, gradually wearing down. Luckily, there’s a way to repair your gear and restore it to its pristine condition.
However, you need to decide if this is worth it. After all, you shouldn’t stick to the same gear set throughout the entire game. To survive in the harsh world of Hytale, you need to upgrade your equipment. Here’s everything you need to know about repairing and upgrading gear.
All this information is based on the Early Access version of the game and may change in the future.
How to repair equipment

Repairing gear in Hytale is actually quite simple.
To get started, you’ll need a repair kit , which can be crafted at a workbench . Simply go to the tools section of the workbench, and you’ll find the repair kit as the first option. To craft it, you’ll need the following materials :
- 2 scraps of linen fabric
- 1 iron ingot
- 1 light leather

Once crafted , equip the kit and right-click to use it . A small menu will appear containing all the items that can be repaired with the kit. This includes your armor, weapons, and tools.

The durability percentage will be displayed next to them . The lower the percentage, the more damaged the piece of equipment is. Click on any item you want to repair, and it will be instantly repaired.

How to improve equipment

Gear in Hytale isn’t upgraded in a traditional way. You don’t just keep a single sword or set of armor, constantly upgrading its stats.
Instead, you create improved versions of the gear you already have .
This process differs depending on whether you are upgrading armor, weapons, or tools.
How to improve tools

Tools are the easiest type of equipment to upgrade because you don’t need additional workbenches . The standard ones are sufficient.
At the beginning of the game, you can craft primitive pickaxes, axes, and hammers from cobblestone.
To obtain upgraded versions of these tools, you need to level up your workbench . This can be done directly in the workbench menu . The first upgrade requires the following resources:
- 30 copper ingots
- 20 iron ingots
- 20 scraps of linen fabric
Below is an overview of the different tools that can be crafted and the workbench level they require:
