The world of Hytale is home to many interesting items, and one of the most mysterious is the Life Essence. It’s a floating green object that glows in the dark, but its purpose isn’t immediately obvious. In fact, it does have a specific use, and in this guide, we’ll explain how to obtain and use it.
Please note that Hytale is in Early Access and information may change before the full release.
How to obtain Life Essence

The best way to obtain Life Essence is through harvesting . As you explore the world, you’ll come across growing wheat, carrots, corn, pumpkins, potatoes, and other crops .

Approaching them and clicking the harvest prompt will yield not only the resource itself but also a portion of Life Essence. Since these crops are found in most grassy biomes, collecting them in large quantities is quite easy .
There is no specific location on the map due to the procedural generation of worlds, but wheat, in particular, is the easiest to find.
In the long term, you can create your own farm, which will ensure a steady flow of Life Essence.
Other ways to obtain: find in chests or as drops from certain mobs . However, harvesting remains the most reliable method.

How to use the Essence of Life

The Life Essence has several main uses:
Use as currency
There are merchants in the game who accept Life Essence as payment for goods . These are called Sapling Merchants, and they resemble cute, ancient creatures. Their locations may vary among players, but one is always located in the same place for everyone —the Forgotten Temple .

To get there, head to the large cross-shaped structure on the map . This location is marked with a portal icon on your compass at the top of the screen.

Once inside through the main entrance, descend the stairs . At the bottom, you ‘ll find a golem guarding a portal . Defeat it and enter the portal , which will take you to the Forgotten Temple.

Once in this magical place, descend the stairs and walk forward until you see two merchants on either side. The merchant on the left, with a tree growing out of his head , is the Sprout Merchant you need.
His inventory changes regularly, but he often sells ingredients and recipes.
Use in crafting

Life essence is also used in crafting . However, it rarely appears in recipes on a regular Workbench. Consider the Farmer’s Workbench .
A Farmer’s Workbench can be crafted using six Wood Logs and 20 Plant Fiber .

Life Essence is required to create feed sacks, catch boxes, chicken coops, fishing traps, fertilizer sacks, various seed sacks, seedlings, and planters .
In fact, most items on the Farmer’s Workbench are crafted with it, including Greater Life Essence, which is also used in some recipes.
