Softwood Logs are one of the many resources in Hytale that you’ll need to gather while exploring the world of Orbis. They’re especially important for upgrading your farming workbench. Luckily, they’re not too difficult to find if you know which trees yield them.
Softwood can be obtained from aspen logs . These trees grow in wooded areas throughout Orbis. Aspen trees are easily identified by their white trunks and yellow-orange foliage. The key is to avoid confusing them with similar birch trees, which also have white trunks but green leaves.
Aspen logs are found in grassy and forested biomes. They’re most reliable in orange maple forests (like the one pictured below), which also contain oak, birch, and maple trees. So, maple forests are a great place to gather several types of wood at once, but remember: only aspen logs will yield softwood.

To accurately determine the type of tree or block in the game, the EyeSpy mod (visible in the upper left corner of the screenshots) can be helpful; it quickly shows whether you are about to mine the right resource.
Besides maple forests, pay attention to any grassy biomes marked with orange trees on the map (see below). These prominent orange marks on the Orbis map are usually aspen trees, which can be used to harvest the necessary logs.
