During your first playthrough of the Furious Green , the opening dungeon in Metroid Prime 4 , you’ll likely encounter a door blocked by a Flame Gate . This device can only be opened with a high-temperature weapon . Behind this door lies one of the most interesting puzzles in the game, primarily because it requires the player to wield all three elemental weapons. In this guide, we’ll show you how to solve the first Sacred Flame puzzle you’ll encounter after removing the Flame Gate, as well as a larger puzzle requiring the Ice and Thunder Shots from Metroid Prime 4.
Metroid Prime 4: Beyond: Ceremony of the Sacred Flame Puzzle Solution
First, unlock Fire Shot:
To get through the door with the Fire Shutter near the Base Camp, you first need to unlock the Fire Shot. This requires completing the main paths in the Furious Green and Voltaic Forge , then collecting the Fire Chip in the accessible part of the Blazing Pool . Once you have the high-temperature weapon, return to the door and unlock it.
Ring and Brazier Puzzle:
Opening the door, you’ll find yourself in the Sacred Flame Ceremony Hall . As you look around the room, you’ll immediately notice a purple glow—a sign that Samus’s new psychic abilities will be required.
In the center of the large ring-shaped area is a pressure plate. Stepping on it initiates the puzzle. When the plate is fully depressed, you’ll be able to lock the crosshair onto the base of the ring and move it along the ring’s guides. The goal is to move the ring opposite each of the three pointed objects located around the perimeter. When the ring is in place, the objects open, revealing braziers hidden beneath the shell.
Carefully inspect the floor to determine how to move the ring—the guides aren’t straight. You’ll need to move it not only forward and backward, but also up and down to ensure the ring is positioned correctly for accurate installation.
Once the ring is directly in front of the brazier, fire a Fire Shot through it directly into the coals.
Light all three braziers, and a large door will open, revealing a statue of Lamor. This statue hints at a larger puzzle in the room. Facing the statue, you’ll see two more doors—one to the left and one to the right. The door on the right is blocked by a Storm Shutter and leads to the Rods of Transmission puzzle . The door on the left is sealed by an Ice Shutter and hides the Fountain of Serenity puzzle . Solving these two puzzles will also complete the main Sacred Flame puzzle.
Solution to the Fountain of Serenity puzzle:
Since you unlock the Ice Shot first, you’ll likely enter the Fountain of Serenity chamber first. Upon entering, you’ll see two fountains, but only one will be active. The water appears to raise a platform, which you’ll need to jump onto later. If you scan the left fountain, you’ll find a Psychic Node at its base .
Before retrieving the node, fire an Ice Shot into the water to freeze it. Then, retrieve the Psychic Node and place it at the base of the right fountain. This will activate it, raising the platform significantly higher than the left one. Quickly freeze this platform in place, then jump from the left platform to the right one, and from there, onto the strange structure hovering in the center of the room.
On this platform, you’ll find a Shot Booster . This will complete the Fountain of Serenity puzzle . In the main hall, near the large Lamor statue, you’ll see a white sphere join the fiery one.
Solution to the “Stands of Transmission” puzzle:
After obtaining the Thunder Shot, return to the Sacred Flame Ceremony Hall to solve the wand puzzle and complete the main mystery.
From the main hall, turn right and remove the Storm Shutter from the door. Inside, you’ll see a strange structure in the center of the room with three rods that can be turned using psychic abilities . Each rod has two articulation points: one allows you to point its tip toward the top of the central object, and the other allows you to lower the entire rod downward.
The goal is to lower all three wands to their fullest potential, then aim their tips precisely at the top of the central object. Afterward, fire a Thunder Shot at that top several times .
Keep shooting until a short cutscene plays, signifying the puzzle is solved. You’ll be rewarded with another Shot Booster .
Sacred Flame Ceremony Reward:
After solving all three elemental puzzles, return to the large Lamor statue to receive the final reward— an Energy Tank . It will emerge from the ground at the statue’s feet, completing this puzzle.
