Smelting any ore in Hytale requires more than just the ore itself. You’ll need fuel to light the furnace. There are many types of fuel in the game, so players have plenty of options. However, fuel efficiency is a key consideration, especially if you want to smelt as much ore as possible while away from home. Fortunately, Hytale is quite generous in this regard, both in resource availability and in the efficiency of the most common fuels.
The best furnace fuel in Hytale
Currently, the best fuel for furnaces in Hytale is simple wooden logs of any kind . In our tests, we used a tier 2 furnace to smelt cobalt ore with various fuels and obtained the following results:
- 100 units of charcoal were enough for 33 cobalt ingots.
- 100 sticks were enough for 22 cobalt ingots.
- 100 amber logs were enough to make approximately 50 cobalt ingots. However, only 70 logs were used.
Fuel efficiency was the same for all logs , so it’s safe to assume this rule applies to all types of wood. In any case, wooden logs are not only very efficient for smelting, but also ubiquitous and easy to obtain (unless you’re in a tree-free area).
When burning wood in a stove, there is a chance of producing charcoal, which can be used to make the stove run longer.
Other fuel sources
Tree resin can also be used as fuel, but its efficiency is similar to that of charcoal . If you prefer to use logs for construction, excess resin is a good alternative.
Plant fibers can also be burned, but they’re too inefficient for smelting ore. It’s best to save them for other crafting recipes where they’re needed.
Growing trees
Even if you find yourself in a treeless area, you can always plant trees on your plot. To do this, you’ll need a farmer’s workbench. The farmer’s workbench has a tab dedicated to saplings . Crafting a sapling requires several life essences.
Life essences can be obtained by harvesting crops such as wheat or corn. You don’t necessarily have to plant them yourself, although it will make the task much easier. Setting up a farm in Hytale is essential for smooth progression and ingredient gathering.
