Games like Hytale often feature multiple biomes. This is common in open-world crafting games, especially since the release of Minecraft.
However, in Hytale, the biome concept is somewhat different. The game world is divided into Zones—isolated territories with their own resources and mobs. Within these zones, you can often find multiple biomes, each visually distinct. Let’s take a look at each zone and its biomes.
Emerald Wilds (Zone 1)

The Emerald Wilds is the game’s main starting location . It’s a grassy area filled with all sorts of trees and plants .
Overall, it’s a fairly safe place , especially compared to other zones. However, hostile animals like bears and wolves are occasionally encountered here. Furthermore, there are always several Trork camps here , which pose a serious threat.
However, since this is a starting area, you should be able to survive with a crude sword and no armor .
Emerald Wilds Resources

You’ll find a wealth of resources in the Emerald Wilds zone . After all, this is where you’ll build your first hut and craft basic tools.
Here are some of the most significant resources that can be found in the Emerald Wilds:
| Resource | Application |
|---|---|
| Copper ore | Create stronger tools and armor. |
| Plant fibers | Used in many crafting recipes. |
| Oak logs | They are used as fuel and solid building material. |
| Beech logs | They are used as fuel and soft building material. |
| Wheat | An excellent source of the Essence of Life. Also used in cooking. |
| Bloody caps (mushrooms) | Can be turned into blood petals and used in potions. |
| Light, medium and heavy skins | Used for making leather. |
| Azure logs | Used in crafting. |
| Azure algae | Can be turned into Azure Petals and used in crafting. |
Emerald Wilds Biomes

The Emerald Wilds zone contains three biomes. Two of them are quite similar both visually and in terms of resources. The swamps, however, are slightly different, especially in appearance.
Here are all the biomes of the Emerald Wilds:
| Biome | Description |
|---|---|
| Drifting plains | This is the area where you start the game. It’s filled with open spaces covered in bright green grass. It’s a good place to harvest wheat and plant fiber. |
| Forests of Seyaniya | The Forests of Seyaniya aren’t much different from the Drift Plains. However, this area features denser forests, making it a good place to harvest timber. |
| Swamps | The game considers autumnal red forests, azure blue forests, and the swamps themselves to be part of the Swamp biome. Their unique coloring makes these areas visually more distinguishable from other Emerald Wilds biomes. Their contents are also more unique, as you can find things like azure logs and seaweed here. Furthermore, the Swamp Stalker can be encountered in the swamps. |
Roaring Sands Zone (Zone 2)

The Roaring Sands zone is a desert. As expected, the terrain here is covered in sand , with no greenery to speak of.
However, there are plenty of enemies here , making this zone overall more dangerous than the Emerald Wilds. Here you can encounter scaraks, scorpions, saber-toothed tigers , and other creatures.
Therefore, before going into this zone, it is better to prepare a copper sword and, perhaps, even copper armor.
Resources of the Roaring Sands

Deserts aren’t known for their abundance of resources, but the Roaring Sands do have some items. Here are a few of the most notable ones:
| Resource | Application |
|---|---|
| Thorium ore | Creating durable tools and armor. |
| Iron ore | Creating durable tools and armor. |
| Dry logs | They are used as fuel and dry building material. |
| Gumboaba logs | They are used as fuel and light building material. |
| Thundercaps (mushrooms) | Used to create stamina potions. |
| Bloody Leaf | Used to create health potions. |
| Tomatoes | Used in cooking. |
Roaring Sands Biomes

The biomes in the Roaring Sands Zone are very similar to each other and contain virtually the same resources . In fact, it can be difficult to determine which biome you’re in at any given moment.
Here are all the biomes in this zone:
| Biome | Description |
|---|---|
| Badlands | The Badlands is an area with many hills and caves. Many bones can also be found here. |
| Desert basin | The Desert Basin is a place with both grass and sand. Tar pits and scarak spawners are also common here. |
| Golden steppes | The Golden Steppes is a vast, flat, golden desert. Overall, it’s a bit quieter than other areas in the Roaring Sands. |
Whispering Frost Zone (Zone 3)

The Whispering Frost Zone is a snowy region on the map. Be prepared for harsh weather and slippery ice. Due to the harsh conditions, there aren’t many creatures here, and those that do exist aren’t very friendly.
Among them are the Outlanders , who wear cobalt armor and wield cobalt weapons. Besides them, beware of yetis and polar bears.
You shouldn’t venture into this region until you have at least iron equipment. Ideally, it’s best to wait until you’ve acquired thorium equipment.
Whispering Frost Resources

Due to the weather in the Whispering Frost Zone, you won’t find much vegetation. However, it’s rich in resources. In particular, it’s the best place for ore mining.
Here are some of the most significant resources that can be found in this snowy land:
| Resource | Application |
|---|---|
| Cobalt ore | Creating durable tools and armor. |
| Silver ore | Used in crafting. |
| gold ore | Used in crafting. |
| Ice logs | Unique material for crafting. |
| Scraps of shadow fabric | Used to create cobalt equipment. |
| Essence of Ice | Used in crafting. |
| Cedar logs | Building material made of dark wood. |
| Fir logs | Used as fuel and hardwood building material. |
Whispering Frost Biomes

The Whispering Frost Zone contains three biomes. The main difference between them is the amount of snow. One is almost snowless, while the other is completely covered. The third is a mixture of snowy expanses and forested areas.
These are the biomes:
| Biome | Description |
|---|---|
| Boreal limit | The boreal limit is characterized primarily by dense forests covering this zone. Cedar and fir logs can be found here. |
| Ice Marsh Tundra | The Icemarsh Tundra is the least snow-covered biome in the Whispering Frost Zone. It’s somewhere between the Emerald Wilds and the Whispering Frost. Therefore, it’s more biome-rich than other areas in the zone. |
| Permafrost | The snowiest and most dangerous area in the zone is the Permafrost. It’s completely covered in snow, and it’s here that the most dangerous mobs are typically found. |
The Blighted Lands Zone (Zone 4)

The Broken Lands zone is the last place you’d want to live. After all, these are volcanic islands filled with fire and lava . It’s also full of enemies, like undead skeletons and magma slimes . There are even dinosaurs living underground .
This is a very dangerous area, and you shouldn’t even think about visiting it unless you have sturdy armor and weapons. It’s best to equip yourself with cobalt and thorium armor before visiting .
Resources of the Devastated Lands

Since the entire zone is engulfed in flames, you might not expect to find many resources here. While that’s not entirely wrong, there are still some unique items to be found here .
Here are the most notable things to find here:
| Resource | Application |
|---|---|
| Adamantite ore | Crafting armor and weapons. |
| Poisoned logs | Crafting material made from dead wood. |
| Jungle Logs | Used as fuel and as a crafting material for green wood. |
| Yellow logs | Crafting material from golden wood. |
| Bamboo logs | Crafting material made from tropical wood. |
| Scraps of ash cloth | Used to create adamantite tools. |
| Essence of Fire | Used in crafting. |
| Bone fragments | Used in crafting. |
Biomes of the Broken Lands

The Broken Lands contain only two biomes. They are visually very different and contain different resources.
The underground jungle is not yet considered a separate biome in the game.
These are the biomes:

|---|---|
| Charred forests | Charred Forests are apparently the most common biome in the Broken Lands. This area is covered in ash and burning trees. It’s the best place to harvest wood logs. |
| Ash Wastes | The Ash Wastes appear slightly less devastated than the Charred Forests. Not everything here is black and burnt. There are even some grass and plants in this biome. |
