How to craft glass bottles and windows in Hytale

Hytale borrows many mechanics from classic survival games, but some familiar processes work completely differently. Glass is one such example. Smelting sand doesn’t produce glass blocks or panels for construction, and windows are crafted from a completely unexpected material. The developers at Hypixel Studios decided to rethink standard recipes, which may be puzzling for players with Minecraft experience.

Obtaining glass by melting sand

Sand in Hytale can be found on the shores of bodies of water. Open the map, find a large lake and check its shores for sandy patches—they’re distinguished by a distinctive light color. Once you’ve found a beach, simply break the blocks with a pickaxe to extract the resource.

Loading sand into the furnace starts the smelting process, but the result is different from what you’d expect. Instead of glass blocks, the resulting output is glass bottles. These containers are used with an alchemy table to create various potions or to collect water and other liquids. It’s impossible to obtain traditional glass panes for windows this way.

Crafting wooden windows

Creating windows in Hytale doesn’t require any glass at all. A crafting table allows you to craft a four-panel glass window from any type of wood. One block of wood yields two finished windows—an economical recipe for large-scale construction.

If you don’t already have a Builder’s Workbench in your inventory, you can craft one on a regular crafting table. The recipe is located in the third tab and requires six blocks of any wood and three stone. This simple design opens up a wider range of building components for building your base.
