How to use the chicken coop in Hytale

The Chicken Coop in Hytale is a craftable item that allows you to easily collect eggs from tamed or captured chickens. However, its functionality isn’t entirely obvious at first glance. How do you get your chickens to use it, and when will you be able to receive your first egg reward?

In this guide, we’ll cover everything you need to know about a chicken coop to keep your coop stocked with eggs to cook.

How to use the chicken coop in Hytale

First, you need to build a chicken coop. To do this, you’ll need to upgrade your Farmer’s Workbench to level 5. Once you’ve done that, you can craft the coop using the following resources:

  • 20x Wood
  • 50x Life Essence (from harvest)
  • 10x Plant Fiber

Once built, the chicken coop can be placed in any convenient location.

It’s also recommended to build a fence around the coop before introducing hens to it—this will prevent them from escaping. However, in my experience, after feeding, hens tend to stay close to the coop even without a fence.

Now you need to add chickens to the coop. To do this, craft an Animal Trap using 4 Wood and 50 Life Essence. If you plan to catch several chickens at once, it’s best to make multiple traps, as each trap can only hold one chicken.

Chickens are very easy to find in the grassy biomes of the first zone of Orbis.

Once you find a chicken, approach it and left-click with the trap in hand—the chicken will be released inside. Return to the coop and left-click again with the trap to release the chicken.

The ideal number of chickens per coop is still unknown. Once you’ve introduced the birds, leave them alone. Check the coop periodically: if a small sack appears in the center (as in the image below), interact with it to collect the eggs.
