Hytale Memories Guide: How to Get and What Rewards to Unlock

The world of Hytale is filled with a multitude of creatures, great and small: some friendly, others ready to brutally tear you apart. All of them are part of Orbis, the world and deity that created all existence, but she was imprisoned by the Void and its curse.

There’s only one way to help restore her and bring order to the world: bring her Memories. These fragments of power hold a record of every creature you encounter in the lands—from the tiniest mouse to the colossal Voidspawn—and she needs you to collect them. Return the Memories to Orbis to help the world and earn valuable rewards.

Hytale is in Early Access , so the information below may change in future game updates.

How to unlock Memories

Memories are a unique system that allows you to record enemies and peaceful mobs encountered in the world of Orbis and then turn them in to the Heart of Orbis for rewards such as new decorative blocks and potions.

This system is unlocked upon first interacting with the Heart of Orbis in the Forgotten Temple —a special dimension accessible through a portal at any Forgotten Temple Gate . You can carry up to 48 Memories at a time , which are stored in a separate tab in your inventory .

Although each Gate is guarded by an Earth Golem, defeating it is not necessary to pass through the portal. However, it is worth doing, as golems are a renewable source of Emeralds and Green Crystal Shards , and they are easy to kill.

The Forgotten Temple Gates are special structures that are always marked on your map and on the progress bar at the top of the screen.

One Gate always spawns near your spawn point , but several others can be found throughout the world. Each structure has at least one loot chest on its second floor .

Inside the Forgotten Temple, you can purchase several useful items and cooking recipes from the Rostling merchant . Additionally, this area is home to several peaceful mobs that can drop Memories if you haven’t encountered them yet.

Once inside, go through the blue portal on the lower floor to enter the Forgotten Temple itself . Approach the Heart of Orbis statue in the gazebo in the center of the island and interact with it.

In its menu, you can record new Memories , view a list of all possible Memories by category, and also find out where and when you obtained Memories for each creature in the game.

How to get new Memories

New Memories are always unlocked when you approach a previously unseen creature within five to six blocks . However, some basic mobs require at least two encounters, as Memories only begin recording after interacting with the Heart of Orbis .

Since most birds are currently only flying in the sky and don’t seem to land, you can build a pole, climb a tree or a hill to try to get closer to them and record the Memory .

All Memories rewards

By storing a certain number of Memories in the Heart of Orbis, you unlock various rewards . The most significant of these are permanent versions of vegetable seeds that continually regrow , the ability to place additional teleporters , and certain upgrades.

Not all creatures spawn naturally in the world, and some Memories rewards are not yet fully implemented or only partially available at the time of writing . This applies, for example, to chests that open upon reaching 100 Memories.
