Contraband is sometimes hidden in rather unsightly places, but fortunately, you have the tools to find it without the need for medical gloves. Below is everything you need to know about searching for contraband in the Quarantine Zone.
How to Find Contraband in Quarantine Zone: The Last Check
Survivors bring a variety of items to the checkpoint in their backpacks , and you decide what can be passed through and what should be confiscated. You receive a $100 reward for confiscating dangerous contraband, but you will be fined the same amount for improperly confiscated items.
The general rule is simple: weapons (firearms, bladed weapons, dangerous tools like chainsaws), drugs, ammunition, and zombie body parts must be confiscated. Any contraband hidden inside the body must also be marked for disposal. Luckily, a dedicated staff member handles this, so you won’t have to get your hands dirty, but you still need to find it yourself.
What is considered contraband?
Smuggling includes:
- weapon;
- ammunition;
- syringes;
- cocaine bricks and other narcotic substances;
- dangerous work tools (e.g. hacksaws);
- zombie body parts.
If you find zombie body parts, do not pick them up. They are contaminated and should be handled by a staff member in a hazmat suit. Instead, mark them as “Contaminated Baggage” in the symptoms menu, under “Objects.”
Items that look suspicious but are allowed
Some items may appear contraband, but are considered acceptable. If you confiscate them, you’ll be fined:
- canisters of gasoline (regular, from a gas station);
- gas cylinders (large, most often with propane);
- working tools such as wrenches and adjustable spanners.
Safe items include food and drinks, stuffed animals, books , pencils, and other small items. Removing such items will result in a $100 fine. Cash is not allowed—it doesn’t count toward your claim, and confiscating it will also result in a $100 fine.
Collectibles
Some items are collectible—they’re easily identified by their golden shimmer. Even if they’re not technically considered contraband, snatch them up: they offer a hefty cash reward of $500. But in general, such items are usually weapons (with rare exceptions).
Smuggling inside the body
Survivors may attempt to smuggle items inside their bodies. To detect them, unlock the X-ray and scan the survivor. If you see an item on the “All” layer, mark it for removal.
Contraband can be hidden anywhere: in the buttocks, stomach, and even mouth. Therefore, when performing an X-ray, don’t forget to inspect the head as well.
Mark each contraband item and send the survivor to the designated location. The next step will be handled by the agent in the hazmat suit, Charlie, standing near the tray to the left of the checkpoint. You don’t need to interfere.
