After completing all the story missions and side quests in Quarantine Zone: The Last Check, we’re ready to share what we’ve learned about some of the symptoms that, as you can see, many players are experiencing issues with, leading to low inspection scores for arriving survivors.
External examination of survivors
It’s clear that you need to act carefully and slowly to avoid missing anything, but keep the following tips and recommendations in mind:
- Take your time —this is the longest part of the examination, at least for me, and I recommend starting with it. This “guide” is intended for those who want to achieve a perfect result for almost every examination, although once the stethoscope is unlocked, this will become even more challenging.
- Be sure to check your arms and legs —both the outside and the palms of your hands. Inspect every piece of clothing. I’ve often found bite marks on the inner thighs and shins, which are easy to miss during a quick inspection. It seems obvious, but there are small areas where the symptoms are much easier to hide.
- Pay attention to stubble – beards and mustaches can hide nosebleeds, greenish mucus, or blood from the mouth, so inspect your facial hair carefully.
- As for the eyes , don’t be fooled by the redness—it’s different from conjunctivitis. A clear red color is easily noticeable as soon as a person passes through the gate.
- Skin tone is a whole different story. Open an image of the person on your tablet . Besides green skin, red and pale skin are often difficult to distinguish. Red skin is usually the most difficult to identify, while pale skin is sometimes noticeable against fair skin. There’s no general recommendation here—just look at the image of the person on your tablet. If the difference is noticeable, point it out; if not, it’s best not to guess. This usually negatively impacts the assessment.
Stethoscope
One day, my grades started falling, and I couldn’t figure out what I was doing wrong. I replayed the same day several times. The first survivor was a person with freckles, and sometimes without a chest condition. There shouldn’t be any other symptoms, so you can practice on this character and replay the day as many times as you like.
If the breast is clean, without black spots, there is no need to note anything.
If you see a black dot that disappears when you hover over it, I still mark the “green” symptom of the disease. In my experience, this has often helped me get a good rating: if I didn’t mark the chest symptom, the rating was bad. I’m not sure if this works in subsequent days.
Hammer
A dropped jaw is a clear sign that you need to use a hammer to check for this symptom. But until you reach the end, where you can detect improvement in symptoms with a metal detector, always check for this sign—it’s one of the simplest examinations. Don’t check your knees, just your hands. Hit any of them.
If the hand doesn’t respond, it’s a “green” symptom; there’s no reflex. If the hand jerks back, there’s no symptom at all (and the person most likely doesn’t have a slack jaw). If you do this several times, the difference becomes obvious.
If a character attacks, it’s a yellow symptom; if there are no other infected symptoms, quarantine them. If the arm that was hit doesn’t move, and the other arm jerks forward, it’s an “infected” symptom.
In fact, if your hand jerks back after being struck, there are no symptoms of hammer blow. Symptoms are only recorded if your hand remains motionless, attacks you back, or the opposite hand jerks back.
Baggage
Here, I encountered poor ratings again. After unlocking the baggage check, the game doesn’t explain that new inspection options have appeared in the symptoms column. I always marked “baggage” if the character brought a bag. For me, this simply recorded the fact that they had a bag. I don’t recall this ever giving poor ratings.
If the person has a backpack , begin by carefully examining it. Open the backpack and inspect the contents. If there are weapons or other contraband (syringes, ammunition), mark the “luggage” and “weapons” sections, then confiscate the prohibited items. Mistakes in confiscating items generally do not affect your rating.
If your bag contains human body parts (infected parts), mark “baggage” and “infected baggage.” These items won’t be confiscated, and survivors should be dispatched for elimination. Don’t rush, though. After inspecting the backpack, return to your character and check them for the remaining symptoms. Start with the baggage only to remember to mark it in your tablet. But after that, you should perform a standard symptom check using all available tools!
If you see a bright golden object, it’s a collectible. Next to the bedroom is a room with collectibles; similar items can be found throughout the base.
X-ray
This tool sometimes misled me. The “green” symptom is the easiest to track—just zoom in and check the brain, then move down the body, checking the different layers of equipment. The final layer, showing only the skeleton, helps identify contraband within the body.
Contraband in the body is a tricky thing, especially without an upgraded metal detector that could flag the presence of contraband. A fully upgraded metal detector is a real find.
Don’t confiscate items that look like sausages or lemon-sized rocks—I’m not sure if they need to be removed from your body at all, but they definitely shouldn’t be confiscated. If there’s a metal detector, it will show the “drug” symbol—this means there are drugs in your luggage or body. Always remove and confiscate them. Note this in the symptoms column; if found in your luggage, select “contraband.”
The yellow symptom (the altered organ) can be any color except blue, green, or black. The “infection” symptom is easy to spot—it’s bright and always visible. Be sure to note it.
If you accidentally send an infected into a survivor camp, if you have a upgraded pistol or hammer, attack them as they pass by. Yes, you’ll lose money, but it’s better than finding out the next morning that half the survivors are dead.
Quarantine
Quarantine is necessary for characters with questionable symptoms that could indicate either Infection or a common illness. Check them again the next day. Review the symptoms they were quarantined with and any new symptoms that appear (usually, if anything appears, it’s Infection). Send those who are completely infected for elimination, but if the symptoms disappear, move the survivors back to the block with the others.
If one yellow symptom disappears but another remains, remove the missing one from the graph and quarantine it. I sometimes sent such characters directly to the survivor camp. Later, a quick analysis syringe will be added, allowing you to determine whether a survivor is infected or not and immediately place them in the survivor block or send them for elimination.
Mathioscope
This tool gave me a lot of bad ratings. There’s no one-size-fits-all method—just follow the game’s instructions. I usually check the penultimate layer, first looking for green symptoms in the eyes. It’s tedious, so I mark 1-2 symptoms at a time to avoid confusion. A single person can have up to 5-6 of them!
I’m not sure if I should be recording absolutely every symptom I found or just the bad ones—I simply separated the infected from the survivors, and that was enough.
General tips
To achieve the good ending, meet all evacuation quotas and send enough people to earn 50 RP (research points) for each evacuation. Make sure you always have a caged zombie , as it’s also important for subsequent evacuations. Feed it and keep an eye on the food supply at the base to prevent survivors from starving. Complete small quests from the notice board. Rank isn’t critical here—the main thing is to avoid losing survivors and going broke.
To get the bad ending, do the exact opposite, but don’t overdo it. Ignore evacuations, don’t dispatch zombies, and ignore tasks. The main goal is to show your incompetence, but still reach the final day.
A well-tuned metal detector makes your life much easier: it will show you everything that needs to be checked, allowing you to get through the inspection faster. Ignore the “fake” symbols; just check the rest.
