Hytale presents a wide variety of enemies, most of which are linked to the Void—the mysterious force that brought destruction to Orbis. Some are more dangerous than others, and one such is the Praetorian Skeleton, a massive undead warrior who haunts the old arena.
If you manage to defeat this massive beast, you’ll receive an item that replicates his ability to summon skeletal warriors to aid him. Does this mean he was a fellow adventurer? Only Orbis knows, but whatever the answer, the grimoire he holds will prove useful.
Hytale is currently in Early Access , so the information below is subject to change in the future.
How to find and defeat the Praetorian Skeleton
To obtain the Grimoire: Spark Rebirth , you must defeat the Praetorian Skeleton . This is a special boss that appears in its own arena in various biomes throughout the first zone , including the Drift Plains, the Marshlands, and the Autumn Forest.
The arena appears on the world map as a circular structure with wide dirt paths . At least one such arena is generated throughout the world, and you ‘ll see it from afar, especially at night , thanks to the blue braziers of the Lost Civilization along the walls and the fact that it’s built primarily of cobblestone , unlike most of the other pre-made structures in the first zone.
There will be only one enemy inside — a Scorched Praetorian Skeleton . This enemy is about twice the height of a normal skeleton and is armed with a large sword and shield , and wears armor .
He has similar attack patterns to the regular Skeleton Brawlers and Skeleton Warriors , alternating sword strikes and shield blocks , but also uses new moves.
He has a charging attack and a special attack similar to yours. Both deal massive damage unless you have high-level armor . Before using these attacks, the Praetorian Skeleton gains a red, smoky glow .
If you ‘re using a bow and arrow, you can run and jump along the walls of the arena while shooting at the Scorched Praetorian Skeleton to avoid some of its attacks.
While he attacks faster than the Void Spawn or Bear, fight him similarly: focus on blocking and retreating when necessary, then use a charge attack to close the distance and deal damage when he’s not blocking.
When his health is low , the Charred Praetorian Skeleton will summon two Skeleton Warrior minions . The fight will be easier if you separate them from the boss and deal with them first.
When killed, the Praetorian Skeleton will drop approximately four to five Essences of Fire , several Iron Ingots, five Skull Piles , and five Spark Rebirth Grimoires , which allow you to summon your own minions .
You can fight the Charred Praetorian Skeleton multiple times to farm Essences of Fire and additional Spark Rebirth grimoires . This will give you backup copies in case of death or loss.
How to use Grimoire: Spark Rebirth

Grimoire: Spark Rebirth is a summoned weapon . To use it, hold the secondary action button while the grimoire is equipped on your hotbar . Summoning a servitor takes about 2 seconds , and always summons Skeletal Warriors . The number of servitors summoned depends on the availability of suitable skeletal items nearby —one servitor for each skeletal item.
Any normal bone objects are suitable , including those placed by the player . This means you can save any acquired or created bone constructs and place them to create a valid grimoire summoning target .
If there is no suitable item nearby to summon a Servant, the grimoire cannot be used , eliminating the risk of accidentally wasting a charge.

Each grimoire summons one minion and then consumes it . So, with a full stack of five , you can have five minions active at once . These minions last until they die , lose sight of you (for example, if you teleport), or until five minutes have passed .
The servants will follow you and attack any entity you attack , be it Void creatures, scorpions, or black wolves, as well as anyone who accidentally attacks them .
They’re especially effective when combined with ranged or magical weapons : you can attack a target from afar and allow the skeletons to engage in melee combat . This is especially useful against pesky enemies like Volcano Toads.
